Bush says Chirac might make a good cowboy

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush has called the French leader by his first name Jacques and joked about inviting the Iraq war opponent to his Texas ranch, saying, "I'm looking for a good cowboy."

(snip)

"This is my first dinner, since I've been re-elected, on European soil, and it's with Jacques Chirac -- and that ought to say something," Bush said with Chirac at his side.

(snip)

"Every time I meet with Jacques he's got good advice. And I'm looking forward to listening to you," Bush told the French president. "We've got a lot of issues to talk about -- Middle Eastern peace, Lebanon, Iran, helping to feed the hungry."

Bush, Chirac Pledge to Patch Up Relations

1 hour, 45 minutes ago Europe - AP

By TOM RAUM, Associated Press Writer

BRUSSELS, Belgium -

(snip)

"I'm looking for a good cowboy," Bush joked when a French reporter asked him whether relations had improved to the point where the U.S. president would be inviting Chirac to the U.S. president's ranch in Texas.

Chirac said that U.S.-French relations have been "excellent for over 200 years now." Chirac added, "That doesn't necessarily mean we agree on everything at every time." The two leaders made the comments before they sat down to dinner.

Does he think he's going to tell President Chirac that the job of helping the needy in France should be transferred to the churches? What a complete ass Bush is, and Jacques Chirac knows it!

81. Camargue.

I'll bet Chirac knows more about horses than Bush does.

According to some scientific research, the origin of the Camargue horse would be the solutre horse, who lived in a marshy land, near the Quanternary Sea. Both have the same characteristics (same skeleton, same stature...) From his cradle, they went down to the Rhone Delta.

So, we can admit that the foreign crossings had no influence on the present Camargue horse and that he's really the descendent of the solutre quaternary horse, with the same characteristics, thanks to the deep and permanent action of the environment in which he lives in half-liberty.

Main characteristics:

-Rustic saddle-horse.

-Pale gray coat when adult.

-Stature: from 1,35 meters to 1,45 meters.

-Weight: from 300 kg to 400 kg.

The Camargue horses live in marshes. This hard way of life (lack of grass, heat) makes the Camargue horse resistant to abstinence and bad weather (no stable).

The only work of the breeder is to choose a stallion who will stay in the breeding the whole year. The breeding happens in total liberty, without any human intervention...

Where tough French cowboys herd huge black fighting bulls on little white horses through these incredibly beautiful wetlands.

Personally I'd love to see Little Boots sitting on a pony staring down some huge black bull with three foot horns and an inbred bad attitude.

* wouldn't last long. He'd be tossed off pretty quickly.

I would love to ride one of those Carmargue horses, the "white horses of the sea." The gardien (Carmargue cowboys) ride these primitive descendants of the Barb and prehistoric horses while herding the bulls. These horses have lived for 1,000s of years in the Rhone delta. I ride Tarpans, which are one of the two most ancient horses still existing in the world. (The other is the wild Przewalski horse of Mongolia.)

namely, "We should give the weapons inspectors in Iraq more time to complete their work there, Mr. President."

Like Bush is suddenly going to change his ways and actually give a damn what the rest of the world thinks. :eyes:

36. Mais Oui!
But yes Jacques Chirac would make a better cowboy than would le "W." Chirac would at least bother to consult the trail boss as to where "les vaches" should go, instead of trying to herd them solitaire, like our Buckaroo Bush.

Jacques Chirac had actually visited the US before he began his political career, and worked as a dishwasher for a time while he was on this side of the Atlantic.

Out of sheer spite, I am trying to imagine notre "W" doing the same thing as a young man in France. Mais c'est trop difficile!

Jacques Chirac has 1,000 times more class than Bush. I saw some photos of Bush, the last time he went to meet up with his Nemesis. Chirac is much taller than Bush. He looked down, as he was shaking the little loser's hand. Bush had puffy eyes, looked liked crap (probably from the trans-Atlantic trip).

The old gentleman looked classy, elegant, "French".

The little jerk from the US just couldn't measure up.

42. As someone with French family (I married the daughter of
a socialist newspaper editor) I can tell you that Chirac WOULD make a good cowboy. The only reason why they've gotten along so absolutely horribly is because they are exactly alike. And Chirac is, do not forget, a right wing leader.

It's like I say: the only reason we need our conservatives is because they have theirs. The real problem isn't American conservatives: it's conservatives period. They fight evolution and progress every step of the way--they love the future, as long as it means nothing changes. And no matter what Ann Coulter or any other wingnut says, they have been on the wrong side of history at every turn, it just takes the world a couple of generations to always realize they were on the wrong side.

Je n'ai jamais appris comment ecrire parce que j'ai appris en parlent soulement.

Chirac may be a socialist by Bush standards but by French standards he is most definitely right wing. And the only reason why Chirac has ANY stature what-so-ever in his own country is because Bush has made him more popular, like he has virtually all leaders who are contrary to the true interests of the US. There are many leaders in the world now who are truly bad leaders who would have likely been thrown out by their own people if only Bush had not been such an asshole.

51. I had a night out with some Parisian journalists a couple of years ago
and basically said the same thing. There is a slight difference in what we call right wing and what the French consider right. I likened our "moderate"democrats equal to their "right" wing conservatives. Chirac has divided the French in similar ways bush has the US. We actually toasted in empathy for what shitty leaders both countries had, but agreed Bush wins as worse option. I think we ended the night at around 6:30 AM and my partner and I never got to spend a dime on drinks! Fun time and wonderful memories in Paris.

who remains a committed socialist (I however am most definitely not a socialist). His take on the situation is that Chirac and Bush have been the perfect political storm. No two leaders together could have been worse for the world. Our biggest argument the first few years of Bush was who was worse. He insisted nobody could be worse than Chirac, I insisted that Bush was most definitely worse. He has finally capitulated and admitted that "my" leader is significantly worse than "his" leader. Basically Chirac, he has concluded, is an intelligent ass-hole, and Shrub is a stupid ass-hole.

55. Honestly, compared to *, Chirac is a socialist.
There are many negative things to say about Chirac's home policies, but on international matters, he's the opposite of a "cowboy".

I think the main difference between them is that Chirac actually learned from his experiences.

62. See my post just above on who is worse and why...
Again, for France he is definitely on the right of the spectrum and has done many things to weaken international law as well, including some rather nasty interventions in the Cote d'Ivoire. He is, for France, a conservative. And I stick by my take on conservatives world wide--they are a bit like lawyers: I need mine because you have yours. After all, when was the last time we were ever threatened by liberals abroad?

71. The nature of the current French Constitution is a great help to Chirac
because since 1958 (and De Gaulle's revamping of the Constitution), the President of the Republic is "shielded" from the country's ire by the Prime Minister who is the one who always takes the blame for the national policies' failures.
However he is the real person in charge of the foreign policy and he won't let anybody else take that role from him.

Chirac is VERY good at using that nuance. He is indeed much of a crook but he knows very well how to look like the opposite !

And I agree with you regarding the fact that he and * needed each other because Chirac's approval ratings have never been as high as since he stood up against *.

you create your own need (to protect your people from other people just like you who happen to live in another country).

53. * fantasises about him in CHAPS with nothing underneath-and a hat
Bush is closet gay-
he should just admit it -nothing to be ashamed of-
should also admit he likes S&M and torture-

he also likes to play super hero and safety pins on a towel for a cape when no one's looking.

Does G Dubya know anything about his history or how the French saved the "American Revolution"??

64. I cannot believe that idiot made a comment like that to France
Any chance of repairing our relationship with France pretty much is shot now. Sure Chirac is going to say something nice like "Oh we'll try" but let's face it - he's doing one of those lies like when your good friend asks you "Do these pants make my ass look fat"

How would Shrub know? He is as much like a cowboy as a crab is like an apple. In Texas they know what he is. A drugstore cowboy, all hat, and no cattle. Just Rove's and Cheney's monkey boy.

simple. The Conneticut/Maine "comboy". Just read their history. If you really want to have some fun, find this book, "The Rich and the Super Rich" by Ferdinand Lundberg, First printing June, 1968, 13,500.

2nd, July 1968, 13,500
3rd, July 1968, 13,500
4th, July 1968, 13,500
5th, August 1968, 13,500
6th, October 1968 13,500

Out of print, I found it in an antique store.

Enlightening beyond belief and more than you ever wanted to know.

Just for fun, go google Ferdinand Lundberg. Eye-opening!

Then there is always "None Dare call it Conspiracy". Gary Allen
(just for fun, look up Gary Allen and read his books)

And don't leave out the one that opened my eyes long ago and then I slept through the '90's, shame on me.

"America, What went Wrong", Bartlett and Steele, First Printing March 1992. This was the book that woke me up and led me to all the rest.

After Perot, I slept through the 90's, I played the game, "stay at home mom, super sales person in well known company, 4,000 sq foot home, played the "dream".

I'm guilty, I buried my head in the sand, and pretended that "democracy was just a spectator sport". Nothing to worry about, just me and mine. I'm so sorry.

WAKE UP EVERYONE!

I think it was a comment on Bu$h's intellectual ability and not his brush-clearing prowess.
