Texas Police Seek Missing Pregnant Woman (and 7 yr old son)
http://www.baytownsun.com/wire.lasso?report=/dynamic/stories/M/MISSING_FAMILY

DENTON, Texas (AP) -- A sport utility vehicle belonging to a missing pregnant woman was found in a creek Monday as police searched for her and her 7-year-old son, two days after a pool of blood was found in their home.

Officers on horseback and using dogs concentrated the search in a rural area of Denton, about 30 miles northeast of Fort Worth, after a landowner found the SUV belonging to Lisa Underwood and her son, Jayden. The vehicle was nose down and partly submerged in a creek.

A statewide Amber Alert was issued after the woman failed to show up for her baby shower Saturday, and the alert was expanded to New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.

Police would not give details of what they found at Underwood's Fort Worth home, but a police report said relatives checking her house Saturday found a large pool of blood on the living room floor.

1. I heard about this on the radio this morning
They're not saying if the blood looks to be miscarriage-like, or foul play. Here we go, another Laci story.

2. damn.
The local news didn't mention the pool of blood last night. It's extremely difficult to not think the worst at this point. :(

Edited on Tue Feb-22-05 12:56 PM by rainbow4321
They found them....

http://www.nbc5i.com/news/4215611/detail.html

Police sources said statements from Barbee have led them to search an area near the Texas Motor Speedway in far north Fort Worth where two bodies, believed to be those of Underwood and Jayden, have been located.

Friends and family told NBC 5 that Barbee is the father of Underwood's unborn child.

4. How sad. This made national news , but the double murder
in Yakima, WA last night did not.
3 year old baby shot to death, her father shot to death, the mother clinging to life and no idea who the suspect is.

Of course, these people are Hispanic, the missing pregnant woman is white.

5.  Update: Arrest made in Amber Alert case
Edited on Tue Feb-22-05 09:00 AM by rainbow4321
Not much else in the link except what is below:

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/wfaa050222_wz_amberalert.d170690b.html

A man was arrrested in Tyler and booked on a capital murder charge overnight in connection with the disappearance of a pregnant Fort Worth woman and her 7-year-old son. Stephen Barbee, 37, of Fort Worth, was booked into the Smith County Jail at 1:15 a.m. Bond was set at $2 million.

Lisa Underwood, 34, and her son Jayden were reported missing on Saturday after they failed to appear at a baby shower at Underwood's bagel shop in Fort Worth.

Underwood's sport utility vehicle was discovered abandoned in a creekbed in Denton on Monday. The mother and son remain missing

Early Tuesday morning, acting on a tip, police searched Barbee's home in the 4100 block of Walnut Creek Court at The Hills at Fossil Creek subdivision in North Fort Worth. Investigators removed some material and confirmed they found what they had been looking for, but they would not be more specific.

on edit:
From the radio: "he's talking"..and there was alot of evidence in her truck that they found. Cops are not releasing anything else except they are trying to tie what they found in the truck and at his house all together.

8. It is sad!
I think the same thing when I know about deaths here in Okla-HELL-ma, but since they are minorities, they will never get past the local news. Since you wrote what you did, I was trying to think of the last time I heard about a minority woman and child being killed and it being in the national news. I can't think of one. There has to be at least one in the past year! What a sad statement about our country.

9. The guy was leading a double life..had a wife and family
I had heard that they had found their bodies but to hear the Amber Alert announcer come on the radio a few minutes ago to report that the cops were officially "cancelling the Amber Alert" for them was heartbreaking....

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/022305dnmetunderwood.d3296c64.html

An arrest warrant affidavit made public Tuesday afternoon said that the Fort Worth police investigation found that Barbee was the father of Underwood's unborn child. The affidavit said that Barbee told police after his arrest in Tyler that he had argued with Lisa Underwood because he would not leave his wife. During the argument, Barbee said that Underwood kicked him in the leg. He then punched her in the face several times, causing her nose to bleed. At that point, Barbee held Underwood on the floor and suffocated her. During the fight, Jayden entered the living room screaming, and Barbee told police that he also suffocated the child. He put the bodies in the back of the SUV, drove to Denton County and dug a shallow grave.
