Permanent U.S. bases sought in Afghanistan
Associated Press

KABUL, Afghanistan - A senior American lawmaker called Tuesday for permanent U.S. bases in Afghanistan to safeguard American security interests in a region that includes Iran as well as nuclear-armed Pakistan and China.

Sen. John McCain, the leader of a five-strong U.S. Senate delegation which held talks with President Hamid Karzai, said he was committed to a "strategic partnership that we believe must endure for many, many years.
(snip)

However, Afghan Defense Minister Rahim Wardak has also requested high-tech weaponry such as attack helicopters and special forces for the new U.S.-trained Afghan National Army to reduce the need for foreign troops.

There are currently about 17,000 U.S. forces in Afghanistan, hunting remnants of al-Qaida and the former ruling Taliban.

A move about our imperial plans. You have got to see it. They show a map of the pipeline that was put in AFTER the war, and all our bases there now are directly along that pipeline.

8. McCain: Permanent U.S. base needed in Afghanistan
By Stephen Graham
Associated Press

KABUL, Afghanistan — A senior American lawmaker called Tuesday for permanent U.S. bases in Afghanistan to safeguard American security interests in a region that includes Iran as well as nuclear-armed Pakistan and China.

Sen. John McCain, part of a five-strong U.S. Senate delegation which held talks with President Hamid Karzai, said he was committed to a “strategic partnership that we believe must endure for many, many years.

“Not only for the good of the Afghan people, but also for the good of the American people because of the long-term security interests that we have in the region,” McCain told reporters at the presidential palace in the Afghan capital.

Asked what such a partnership would entail, he said: “Economic assistance, technical assistance, military partnership including — and this is a personal view — joint military permanent bases and also cultural exchanges.”

9. Countries LOVE having other countries troops stationed there.
Remember the old Cold War days? Eastern Europeans LOVED it when Soviet troops had permanent bases in their countries. They loved how the Soviet troops helped to provide stability in their countries, like when those danged anarchists in Czechoslovakia revolted and had to be taught a lesson.

Japan loves having our troops on Okinawa. Osama bin Laden was so pleased with American troops being stationed in Saudi Arabia that he sent 19 hijackers to the US as a token of his appreciation.

A tip of the hat to the last people to bring "freedom" to the Afghanis.

And also it avoids False Advertsiign, since Imperial Amerika is indedd the Free-Market Inheritor to the Soviet Union.

18. This Was Always The Plan...
The troops were never coming home---never.

And the MSM media knows but
is for Bush and that's that.

The goal is to do what the USSR did not: actually stay in Afghanistan.

24. To anyone with half a brain, yep, this was always the plan
After all, we've got to secure Lebensraum for all of our big campaign contributors from the oil and gas industry. Why, without their billions to buy journalists, spin doctors, and media coverage, we might actually have an informed electorate, and you know where that leads... democracy and government accountability. We certainly can't have any of that!

19. "...the good of the Afghan people..."
Like McCain gives a shit about the good of the Afghan people, maybe someone should point out to the good Senator that children may die in a hospital that cannot count on a constant source to provide electricity.

Maybe someone should tell him of the Afghans, mostly children, who are dying because relief supplies can't reach them, because of the snow in the Afghan mountains.

So we build permanent bases in Afghanistan and Iraq, but we cut funding for the poor, the disabled, the elderly, children, veterans,
first responders, and education.

McCain has drank the kool-aid and Hillary has joined him.
