Bush Budget Proposes Halt in Housing Aid for Disabled
By DAVID W. CHEN

With little fanfare, the Bush administration is proposing to stop financing the construction of new housing for the mentally ill and physically handicapped as part of a 50 percent cut in its housing budget for people with disabilities.

The proposal, which has been overshadowed by the administration's plans to shrink its community development programs, affects what is known as the Section 811 program. Since 1998, Section 811 has helped nonprofit developers produce more than 11,000 units of housing for low-income people with disabilities, including more than 700 in New York State.

Until now, Section 811 has provided equal amounts each year, roughly, for financing for new construction, and rent subsidies for disabled tenants. But under the 2006 budget proposal, the capital allocation would be eliminated and the overall budget would shrink by half, to $120 million from $238 million.

2. They prefer to send mentally ill people to jail
or lock them into asylums. No way would we, you know, build suitable housing for them that might allow them to live fairly normal lives.

3. No, they want them to wander off into the wilderness and die.
They do not want to pay $ to house them in institutions. That was proven back in the Reagan era.

If a group cannot be usuful to the effort of creating more wealth to the top 1%, the neocons want it off the planet.

19. That would be good for the businesses running the jails and asylums.
Payback for the people who helped put him into office and getting rid of a 'problem class' at the same time. Really good Christian here, huh?

4. HERE'S WHAT...
Just watch with extreme anger at how many
Demcrats vote in support of this cruel, evil
plan.

I'm sick of the Democrats acting like scum
instead of public servants.

5. There are already lengthy waiting lists for housing for the disabled
When I served on the board of a local non-profit that provided services, including housing, for the disabled, the waiting lists were years long. We had started to make some progress on reducing waiting lists during the mid to late 1990's, but it has all been reversed since Bush took office.

Imagine the grief of aging and terminally ill parents of adult children with disabilities worrying about where their children will live after they are dead. Imagine the grief of a person with disabilities of losing not only their parent, but their home as well.

God DAMN Bush to hell.

Watch Democrats vote for this shit, giving Bush Inc. another
win, hurting the helpless yet again.

Real Democrats need to replace these fake "Democrats."

17. Many Helpful Programs Cut...
...under the B*sh administration.
A disabled female was eligible for in-home assistance with chores, for years, (but did not take the help while trying to live independently), then when she was re-injured, she was no longer eligible to receive help as long as she could brush her teeth and use the toilet by herself.
An elderly, disabled man who was recently widowed, must depend on his family and neighbors for assistance with every day tasks, while awaiting the lengthy application process. He can barely shuffle through his tiny mobile home.

13. Around half of us voted for the evil dunce
or so says the right-bent National Organization on Disability (Richard M. DeVos, Founding Chairman!), anyway.

Millions of Americans with disabilities either got hornswoggled by his "New Freedom Initiative" bunk, or just decided it was more important to keep killing brown people, even if they themselves had to suffer, thus proving that they can be just as swinish and bullheaded as typical Americans.

reagan was the champion of this kind cost saving, while at the same time wildly overspending on any military boondoggle that they could dream up.
