News That Husband Died In Iraq Was Cruel Hoax
Soldier's Wife Spots Military Imposter

POSTED: 2:54 pm PST February 22, 2005
UPDATED: 3:05 pm PST February 22, 2005

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- It was a cruel hoax, but the wife of a soldier serving in Iraq didn't fall for it.

Military investigators at Fort Stewart are trying to determine why a man in an Army dress uniform falsely told the woman that her husband had died in Iraq.

A spokesman at Fort Stewart said the woman immediately noticed something unusual -- the uniform didn't have any markings or a name tag, and the man was alone when he came to her home. Two soldiers in dress uniforms always tell the family in person of a death.

5. Anyone know the real story of vlad tepes dracula?
The popular impaler is his son, but the father was the 'black dragon' in the military I believe. My knowledge of the history is thin so bear with me. I remember that as he was battling the turks for the vatican, a turkish soldier shot an arrow into his loving wife's quarters of his castle. The message was he had died in battle, and so she commited suicide. Returning from battle, vlad found his wife had killed herself. Crushed, he had asked for a catholic funeral, and they denied it and told him she had gone to hell for suicide....so he had become this 'dark' figure everyone knows, merely since he betrayed the vatican, the leading strong political persuasion at the time.

I know this soldier is probably not on the same level as the great military man vlad must have been, but still I can't help but be reminded of that story...and I really wonder how it would tie into today's politics.

7. Could be a sick way to get a woman.
Comforting her as she cries and no longer notices the subtle signs of a fake uniform.

There's a chance this guy is a preditor. The police should be called.

9. Real good chance - also some pathological liars attempt to trigger strong
emotions to feed off. It's a (yet another) bizarre disorder.

10. when I was in college someone called the school and said
that my roommates parents had been killed in a tragic auto accident and that her brother (James) was on the way to pick her up. Sounded official enough to fool the college administration. Long story short - after waiting in tears for four hours Wanda dialed her home (only two hours away) to find out when James had left.

Her mom answered the phone. It was a horrible, sick, twisted joke. There had been no accident. They never found out who made the call... There are some seriously cruel people in the world, with very sick ideas about what is "funny"
