Senators request ideas on water management

hmmm, water rights and management is generally handled by a State through their water engineer. why is the fed sticking their nose in it now? water wars, some say, will be the greatest of all wars.

WASHINGTON -- Senate Energy Committee leaders said they want ideas from the public on how to meet the country's growing water demands.

Sens. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., and Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., plan to hold an April 5 conference in Washington to discuss proposals.

"It's a broad call to everyone ... government agencies, individual citizens, private corporations, trade associations, special interest groups and Indian tribes," Energy Committee spokeswoman Marnie Funk said.

The conference will encourage dialogue among lawmakers and presenters, Funk said.

Presenters will be chosen from the submitted proposals, she said.

Bingaman said in a statement, "Congress needs to play a stronger role in crafting appropriate strategies to address water resources issues and to identify areas where federal resources should be targeted."
