The Fool Loose In Europe: Bush To Press Putin On Democracy In Russia
Reuters 2/23

President Bush will urge Vladimir Putin to "renew his commitment to democracy," U.S. officials said, in a Thursday meeting that could bring a new confrontational tone to U.S.- Russian relations.

The two leaders, who call each other by their first names, are to meet for at least 90 minutes late in the afternoon to close Bush's tour of Belgium, Germany and Slovakia on a dramatic note. A joint news conference will follow.

Trying to figure what Putin's reaction might have been upon hearing this latest squeak from America's First Tourist.

1) He let loose with a jolly chuckle.

2) He quietly asked an aide exactly how long it will be "before the little idiot goes back home?"

3) He lifted a leg and let loose a long room clearing fart.

Bush: Arrogance instead of diplomacy before summit

Bush insinuates that Russia is not democratic

"Russia, to make progress as a European nation must renew a commitment to democracy and the rule of law".

Democracy? President Putin was elected by a democratic process, was he not? Rule of law? Did the Russian Federation break every rule in the book by breaching the Geneva Convention and UN Charter, launching an illegal war, based on barefaced lies, slaughtering tens of thousands of innocent people in a sovereign nation? No.

2. Bush to Putin: Hey, Pooty, there's more than one way to control the media.
I'll get Karl over here to work with your boys. He's brilliant. You know that CBS scandal about my (hee hee) National Guard papers? That was Karl's work.

4. So much for Condi's Three F's: "Forgive Russia , Forget Germany and . . .
Quick, reshuffle the deck, "Forgive Germany, Forget France and F!@#$ Russia.

Rewind Ronnie: "We begin bombing in five minutes ..."

We missed the Cold War and all those Russian ICBMs.

6. He Will Not Tell The Emperor That He Is Naked
He will allow Bush to make points at home but will show his people some strength. Don't expect Putin to try and correct Bush's mistakes. The longer Bush continues down the PNAC path the stronger Russia becomes.

10. I just read something similar on another news group:
The article said, "it's just too tempting to stand by and do nothing while the United States goes bankrupt in Iraq". "They will throw in a few token security people and money for the sake of solidarity".

But in reality, they're simply waiting for the inevitable to happen.

And you KNOW they call each other on the phone and discuss Bush behind his back, all planning the same strategy.

So you're right: Putin doesn't need to defend his honor. He will probably play it cool and lay low. He knows Bush needs no one's help to make a big ass of himself.

And Putin scores big points in the meantime.

12. Bush calls all leaders by their first name
defying basic European etiquette. I noticed that Poppy and Bill call themselves "Mr. President," however.

Is Chimpy afraid to bestow a leadership title on anyone but himself?

14. Waiting for US to bankrupt itself in Iraq
I'm surprised no one has alluded to Russia's (USSR's) bankrupting itself in the Cold War and Afghanistan. They poured so much money into those efforts that they had to mothball much of their navy. Remember the photos?

I fear that's where we're headed now. Not only is Iraq a war started under false premises, but it is a war which is slowly bankrupting our economy.

That's why The Chimp's proposed budget doesn't include the cost of the war. Doing so would simply emphasize to our citizens how deep our deficit hole has become.

Besides, we'll just get more money for the war by printing it--so no problem......
