Pledging to campaign everywhere, Dean will visit Kansas for 2 days

BY STEVE KRASKE AND DAVID GOLDSTEIN

Knight Ridder Newspapers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - (KRT) - Talk about stepping into the lion's den.

On Thursday, Howard Dean, the newly elected chairman of the Democratic National Committee, begins a two-day trip to Kansas, a state that hasn't gone Democratic in a presidential race since 1964. And it recently rated as the third-most-Republican state in the country in a national survey.

That, Dean said, is precisely why he's coming.

"I don't think Democrats are ever going to be a national party unless we bring our message to every state, and that includes Kansas," he said in an interview. "If we don't start today, how are we ever going to carry the state?"

1. Bravo!
Finally, some leadership, some courage, some in-your-face attitude. Dean is going to turn things around for Democrats.

3. Boots on the ground
I think the expression applies here - Dean is right you have NO chance of winning if you DON'T show up. Will we win Kansas probably not but we will ALWAYS lose Kansas if we don't show up and listen as well as talk to the people of Kansas. No it does not mean we give up our positions and pander to get votes. I don't think anybody wants to be bullshitted but I do think thay admire people who do show up, who do listen, who do present their case in a straight forward way. If we are true to our selves and our Party's principles and are straight with people maybe just maybe we can win more votes in places like Kansas and maybe even win the state. Oh yeah I know we have to fix the voting system that's a given.

6. "Hottest ticket in town"
Here is a thread discussing the anticipation we have here in Kansas for Dr. Dean's visit with some great pics. Tickets sold out in 2 1/2 hours. It can be done. People matter everywhere.

Show the nation that the Party has a little self-respect, and nation will respect it.

8. I'm worried about him as there are so many out there that are insane.
Howard is one who is capable of stirring strong emotions in people and that is a powerful quality which may attract nuts and, unlike Booshman, he is so accessible.
Be safe, Howard!
