Lawmakers chided for vulgar exchange
House leaders urge civility, say that 'eyes of state are upon us'

By Bill Scanlon, Rocky Mountain News
February 24, 2005

House leaders reminded members of the importance of decorum Wednesday, a day after a vulgar shouting match on the floor.

(snip)

The day before, Rep. Bill Cadman, R-Colorado Springs, tangled with Rep. Val Vigil, D-Thornton, over an amendment to a license plate bill.

Cadman called the amendment "garbage." Vigil shot back that Cadman was "garbage."

Cadman then approached Vigil's desk and told him if he ever pulled that again, "I'll ram my fist up your ass."

6. Awwww
Despite the chiding, Cadman took plenty of teasing over his remark.

Sen. Dan Grossman, D-Denver, joked to Cadman that he better keep his hands to himself. Most of the other remarks were unprintable.

8. Cadman is making other news in facilitating landlord evictions.
http://www.csindy.com/csindy/2003-01-16/news2.html

He wants to eliminate eviction court hearings. Just a nice guy all the way around. It must be that Focus on the Family compassionate conservatism, putting families out on the street without due process. Even the landlords are skeptical.

"Colorado already has an extremely expedited process" for evictions, he said. Landlords "have got it good enough already. Why do they need to make it harder on the tenants?"

Is it constitutional?

Meanwhile, representatives from the state landlords' lobby, the Colorado Apartment Association, said they weren't sure they would support Cadman's proposal.

"I don't know if it's constitutional, what he's trying to do," said Jamie Glonek, the association's government affairs director. "There has to be some sort of due process I think going to court is probably the only way to do it. You can't just kick somebody out and say, 'You violated this contract' -- that means the landlord is always right."

Glonek said the association would like to work with Cadman to propose changes that would expedite the eviction process by some other means."

10. When I first moved to Denver...
I was blown away by all the people being evicted and having all of their possessions piled up curbside. I think it is a very tacky law and I hope it doesn't get any worse because of this meathead.
