Gannon says he's no Michelangelo (says: 'Look for an announcement soon')
Edited on Thu Feb-24-05 06:17 PM by truthpusher
This is a brief article I found with Gannon being interviewed by what seems to be a Friend of his. In the article, among other things, he says "...I'm tough and I'll be back. Look for an announcement soon."

Gannon says he's really no Michelangelo

By Gabe Caggiano

(snip)

I spoke to Jeff Gannon this week to clear up some unanswered questions and he was open and candid and not about to concede his journalism career is over. Meanwhile he said he is just trying to pay back $20,000 in taxes owed to the state of Delaware. " Gabe, I have no intention of declaring bankruptcy and am trying to pay all my bills. That's the best I can do."

Regarding the nude photos and escort business Gannon's been connected to, Gannon told me, "My sinful past will not prevent me from having a future. I am a decent, giving person who has provided comfort and assistance to AIDS victims for over a decade. I am a leader in my Capitol Hill neighborhood responsible for improving the quality of life in a transitional part of the city."

Gannon again wanted to stress three keys points because they keep coming up. 1) he had no role in outing CIA operative Valerie Plame and had no access to classified documents. 2) Gannon says he was not given a heads up from anyone in the Bush administration about the start of the war in March 2003. According to him he was just making a guess when it would start just like everybody else. 3) He was not paid by the Bush administration to be a "plant" at the briefings.

Gannon has hired a lawyer and is choosing his words carefully and is indicating he may take legal action against those he claimed slandered or libeled him. So far, he hasn't said yet whom he will sue.

"I'm not going away, Gabe, as I have much to contribute. I have been through the crucible and am still standing. I'm tough and I'll be back. Look for an announcement soon."

2. In regards to the 1, 2, and 3 points that were made:
1) If he didn't have access to the documents, why did he say he had access to them, going so far as to say the FBI visited his home regarding the documents.
2) If he didn't get a heads up about the start of the war, why did he tell a (real) news organization about it 4 hours before it started?
3) To be determined...

His own Freeper posts from him being questioned about (I think) this same issue contradict him.

When responding apparently to poster 'JohnGalt', Gannon somewhat arrogantly asserts:

"Oops, now I've "outed" someone else!"

Someone else. Not, "Looks like I outed one, too!", but... someone else. The discussion, by the way, had ventured into the subject of his contact (if any) with the Plame affair and the poster 'JohnGalt' appears to be picking Jeff apart (Jeff himself was somewhat dodgy on the subject of the existance of the documents they were discussing; I'm thinking these are one and the same. It was something someone here at DU would do if they smelled a big, stinky rat:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=3091546#3093467

You really ought to read all this last exchange between him and JohnGalt; I just went over it again and damn, but it seems more important now than it did then.

I think the freep links are included.

3. Sweetie, your "sinful past" is still your present.
Basically, Gannon was a whore before and still is, albeit in a different way.

Your "comfort and assistance" to AIDS victims is bullshit when you support a administration that has not only caused a waiting list for people needing medical assistance for HIV, but likely will make things worse if he cuts the program that many veterans who are HIV+ use to get health care.

You are still a whore, Gannon, and you disgust me.

6. Somebody please explain to me how one has enough income to have
a $20,000 state tax bill and has to struggle to pay taxes? I realize there may well be penalties and interest involved, but gripes, how come he couldn't just pay on April 15th like most citizens manage to do?

How come all these jingo-maniac patriots are so hostile to paying to support the government or our great nation? Sorta seems like the chicken-hawk thing applied to the treasury; they wanna sit at the table and play but they balk at ante-up rules.

And, of course, pimping for anti-gay policies and legislation as someone who was saved from the horror of homosexual depravity!

14. Eva Von Stahl
Leslie's smoothing things over for the RNC yet again.

"60 Minutes" Veteran Leslie Stahl said on Bill Maher's show "That's a real question that needs to be answered" and Stahl smiled throughout her entire live-shot, as if the whole Gannon story was just too funny.

A little investigating, Leslie, you know, the kind you might have done before you were a star, would have revealed Gannon was cleared into briefings daily under his own name. But hey, if knowing the facts shortened your airtime on "Real Time with Bill Maher," maybe it was a savvy move to claim ignorance. But Leslie, at this stage of your career, this is no time to get lazy.

Since it seems he IS a "hoe," in BOTH occupations, that could take a while.

37. about Gabe Caggiano
Quick Google turns up... (Sorry, forgot to copy URL...I'll add it in a sec)

TV Terrorist
By Lee Nichols

AUGUST 11, 1997:  On July 25, KTBC/Channel 7 reporter Gabe Caggiano was suspended pending an internal investigation and, in accordance with station policy, was escorted out of the office building by security guards. Before he exited the newsroom, he turned to his fellow reporters and, in a MacArthurian vow, declared: "I'll be back."

But unlike the famed general, Caggiano, 39, didn't return. Instead, he was summarily dumped by KTBC three days later. If he had been right -- if he had been reinstated -- it would have been to the great consternation of many of his coworkers, as well as many of his colleagues around Austin.

Until his firing on July 28, former "Fox-7" reporter Caggiano was very likely the most hated man in Austin television journalism. A few phone calls here and there can certainly make one believe so -- very quickly, one finds colleagues who complain that he is rude, unprofessional, sexist, belligerent, hot-tempered, and more than a little scary. Channel 7 reporters, former co-workers, journalists from rival stations, even Austin correspondents from non-competing stations in other cities -- all nearly fell over themselves in rushing to complain about Caggiano. And all, except one, asked to remain confidential, often citing a fear of physical violence from Caggiano.

Ridiculous nonsense, says Caggiano, but the volatile TV reporter's temper was approaching legendary -- even by his own admission -- and his penchant for screaming tantrums angered a long list of his fellow reporters, as well as his superiors. Incident piled upon incident, and Fox-7 management took notice. Finally, after questions were raised regarding the impartiality of Caggiano's coverage of possible gubernatorial candidate Garry Mauro, Channel 7 last month decided that it was through with its controversial reporter.

Scroll down to the last third or so of the article. There's a series of photos of "Gabe" getting pushy in his effort to question then-First Lady Hillary Clinton, resulting in his being grabbed and restrained by Secret Service agents. Most of the shots are only of the back of his head, but look at photo #6 in the second set of pics. They're under the paragraph heading "A Tussle With Hillary's Muscle." Does this look like it might be anyone we know... back in 1996... with hair??? I'm not sure...

39. ooooh, is Caggiano who he seems to be?
I turned up this:

MONITOR: Next, you in the fifth row, there.

QUESTION: Gabe Caggiano, Middle East News Broadcast Center. Last week, Newt Gingrich was very critical of the State Department, specifically pointing out the failures, at least in his mind, in Afghanistan, specifically saying that not one mile of road has been paved in Afghanistan, that it's been a disaster. What can the State Department do to make sure that things are more successful in Iraq? And do you disagree with the assertion that Afghanistan has been a bureaucratic, red tape nightmare?

40. Oh, wait, another Middle Easter news service...
Dave, My name is Gabe Caggiano and I'm the reporter who was freelancing for WRC and then for WJLA 8 months ago. Now I'm the White House Correspondent for Al Arabiya's english channel news "MBC 2" out of Dubai. Someone wrote you and made some disparaging comments. Of course, the individual critical of me wouldn't identify himself. That makes him a coward and a person of poor character. Got something to say to me? Say to my face straight-up if it isn't too much trouble. I'm only hard to work with when people around me are lazy or have a bad attitude. I keep getting work because I'm talented and dedicated. Its far too easy in this culture to engage in the snidiest forms of character assasination and defamation. I think I'm a nice guy. So do alot of people. But its always the negative voice that get heard first and loudest. Have a great day! (8/13/03)
