Wetterling says she'll explore Senate campaign

Associated Press

ST. PAUL - Child safety advocate Patty Wetterling, who ran for Congress last year, is shifting her 2006 campaign focus to a possible Senate bid.

Wetterling, a Democrat, issued a news release Friday saying she will form an exploratory committee in coming weeks to look at a campaign for the Senate seat being vacated by Democratic Sen. Mark Dayton.

"After discussing this development with family, friends and supporters I have decided to actively explore a run for the U.S. Senate," Wetterling said in the statement.

1. great news
she did really well against incumbant Kennedy, incredibly well considering she was a novice against a well oiled machine. She could win this one.

Checks and balances has account of recent poll . . .

Word has come our way about a poll commissioned by the Mark Mellman firm on the field of candidates being mentioned in the U.S. Senate race. The poll sets Congressman Mark Kennedy (R-MN6) against Patty Wetterling, Amy Klobuchar, Michael Ciresi and Congresswoman Betty McCollum (D-MN4). We understand the results were:

Wetterling +9 v. Kennedy

Klobuchar +2 v. Kennedy

Ciresi -4 v. Kennedy

McCollum -6 v. Kennedy
