JERUSALEM -- An explosion rocked the Tel Aviv beachfront late Friday, wounding at least 20 people, Israeli media reported. The cause of the blast wasn't immediately known.

9. There are people on both sides of this conflict that are against peace
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 05:11 PM by IndianaGreen
On the Palestinian side, there are terrorists that will not be satisfied until the entire land is cleansed of Jews.

On the Israeli side, there are terrorists that will not be satisfied until the "Greater Israel" is established bereft of Palestinians (or of Jews that they don't agree with).

The challenge for the peace makers is to stay the course towards a peaceful settlement while vigorously prosecuting the war against terrorism without creating additional innocent victims.

10. And there is Bushco
Who is capable of anything, and could use either side for their own advantage.

Every event doesn't have to derail the peace process, if the negotiators want peace, though.

11. Bush has been a disaster for the Middle East peace process, worst than..
Sharon and the Likud.

I also like to know what the hell is Bush is talking about when he babbles about a "contiguous" Palestinian state. Does he mean a contiguous Palestinian-controlled West Bank, or does he mean having a corridor between the West Bank and Gaza that would essentially cut Israel in two? What can you say about a man whose intellect is slightly above that of a flea, and whose views on the Middle East come from the most psychotic passages of the New Testament?

12. Terriorist incidence in Israel?
On CNN while watching the newsclips of the attack, I noticed people walking around with black flack jackets. On the back was a white stripe with hebrew letters. Half of the stripe was blacked out. Why and what does it say? Couple questions and comments: 1. Did anyone else notice it? 2. How convenient was it for the chimp that the Islamic jihad claims responcibilty and happens to be sponsored by both Syria and Iran. 3. How do you get explosives across a 50 foot wall along the West Bank of Gaza? 4. How do you get across Israeli border crossings with explosives?

Who benefits?

You can bet that those lunatics are at the site of the terror attack with their signs calling for the killing of every Arab.

19.  Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack
They muse be disarmed/killed, it's that simple, they cannot be trusted.

Any nuts here want to claim that Islamic Jihad is really a front for the Israeli hard right?

20. There sure is a lot of finger-pointing going on right now...
The militant Islamic Jihad organization claimed responsibility for the attack, while members of the Fatah-linked Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades said the Lebanese guerrilla group Hezbollah was involved in the bombing.

<snip>

In the wake of the attack, security officials launched a search for two suspects after witnesses reported seeing two men fleeing the site of the explosion.

According to police, the terrorists could have come from the northern West Bank, and may be trying to return to the area.

An initial investigation showed the security guard at the nightclub spotted two men approaching the area and followed them, at which point one of the men blew himself up and the second fled.

21. Bad idea to claim responsibilty for this attack
Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 07:32 PM by underthedome
what they have done is signed their own end, they have shown that they cannot be trusted and must be disarmed, the PA can no longer be against/ignore that demand. I wish Abbas good luck as his strongest test is now at hand.

24. I don't think that Islamic Jihad could ever be trusted with anything
and the same goes for some of the other radical groups. The point is to isolate and marginalize the groups that support terrorism, and strengthen the majority of people on both sides of this conflict that have grown tired of the endless bloodshed.

23. I say again, we are about to learn that Arafat was not the obstacle to
peace in the ME. But the "occupation" surely is. Well, they don't have Arafat to kick around anymore. So who really is behind this?

I noticed that when Arafat was alive, whether he had anything to do with these kind of attacks or not, a story like this would have been almost non-stop on the cable channels. I heard the story earlier today and notice that it is JUST NOW being covered by the MSM. I wonder why it isn't all over the TV as whould have been a year ago?

25. The media are still trying to find their feet on these issues.
It hasn't become clear yet how stories like this are to be framed, since Arafat is gone and Sharon is making apparent peace overtures. When the media isn't sure how the status quo wants things portrayed they usually do their best to avoid a story (it is not always possible to do so, of course). Occasionally there is a small window of time where they actually cover a story like journalists ought to, but those occasions are rare and becoming rarer.

26. No, actually Arafat was an obstacle.
He allowed these terror organizations to operate openly and used them at times himself. Abbas will be tested here, does he crackdown or become another Arafat?

27. Arafat was paying vouchers for the manufacture of suicide belts
and that's not Israeli propaganda, but a material fact that is not in dispute. When the vouchers were found by the IDF on the room adjacent to Arafat's office in Ramallah, Arafat could only muster the lame defense that he didn't know what was going on.
