Schwarzenegger acknowledges steroid use, says he has "no regrets"
SACRAMENTO (AP) - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger acknowledged using steroids during his years as a champion body builder and said he would still have used them even knowing what he knows now about the adverse effects of the performance-enhancing drugs.

In an interview to be broadcast Sunday, Schwarzenegger told ABC's George Stephanopoulos, "I have no regrets about it, because at that time, it was something new that came on the market, and we went to the doctor and did it under doctors' supervision. We were experimenting with it. It was a new thing. So you can't roll the clock back and say, 'Now I would change my mind on this.'"

The former seven-time Mr. Olympia said he would not encourage drug use because it sent the wrong message to children. But he said he had no problem with athletes taking nutritional supplements and other legal substances to improve their performance.

(snip)

In the interview, Schwarzenegger said he hoped that over time, bodybuilders would stop relying on steroid use.

40. He admitted this years ago.....
Nothing new here. All hardcore professional bodybuilders do it. Thats the only way to attain such freak levels of muscle mass. I've often wondered what is the psychology behind someone who feels they need biceps the size of basketballs and calves the size of watermelons. Its sort of the male equiv. of anorexia. Arnold is a 178 lb man in a 260 lb shell of protoplasm.

3. These Repukes are all "for the children".
"The former seven-time Mr. Olympia said he would not encourage drug use because it sent the wrong message to children." Bush said the same thing only it was cocaine & marajuana. Pretty soon Karl Rove will be saying that he used propaganda "for the children". He didn't want to show them a bad example of a SOCIOPATH! And it will all be okay.

9. Family values: thanks for encouraging kids to use steroids.
People think California is all San Francisco and West LA. Well it isn't, even in those locations. There are just as many working families out there who care a great deal about their children as there are in Kansas. This guy says "I have no regrets," which gives the signal, if you're young or you have a purpose, go for it. Well, that won't fly with any of the many human beings who populate the great state (cyborgs, yes; humans no).

In addition, he is a total liar! I played high school football in the late 60's, before Arnold arrived. My stupid coach wanted me and a few others to "bulk up" and be "impact players." Steroids came in a big, yellow can and he'd pass them out at weight training. I told my father who took me to my doctor (also the local college football team's physician). He said, go ahead if you want, but you will lose any interest you have in girls. Duh, that was an easy no f'ing way (my priorities were good even then). If my doctor knew this, then any doctor knew it. Any doctor who "supervised" Arnold's steroid use was a quack and probably trained with Elvis' quack doctor.

Arnold, you lie like the dog that you are!

21. Well, you got some bad advice kinda
When one cycles up on steroids one has more than a normal interest in females. In fact, it makes one incredibly horny and you lose much inhibition one would have about girls (or boys or either depending on how one is).

All steroids are essentially testosterone replacers. (Newer steroids try to keep the muscle building while trying not to have so many sexual side effects).

BUT, when one is cyling down on roids, your sex drive flat lines. You have NO sex drive, because your body is not producing sex hormones and it takes a while for it to get back up.

When I was younger (child of the 80s), dianabol was the big roid. However, taken in large enough doses it would punch a hole in your liver (See Ben Johnson and Wilbur Marshall - the reason they had yellow eyes was because they had jaundice).

Would I take steroids? Not when I was younger. I played golf and boxed. I was told it did not help for those sports. Now I know that is not true. However, I am middled aged now. Once I hit 50 I plan to take pharmacuetical testosterone to keep muscle mass and to make up for aging which causes a natural loss of testosterone.

So, call me agnostic on the steroid issue.

22. True or not, the advice worked! I'm glad the doc set me straight.
You're right about the short term effects of steroids. I think my doc was referring to the mid and longer term effects which include hypogonadism, shrinkage of the testes. That's a deal killer in the sexual action department. There is a whole subculture of body builders out there taking testosterone legitimately because of this tragic side effect.

I've looked at the post 50 use of testosterone replacement and there are some interesting points. Our doctors now are a lot smarter so you will probably get some good advice. Just stay away from the "natural" supplements; they're just drugs out there sold as "food" or "nutritional" supplements and thus bypassing any sort of FDA approval (oh, thank you so much Sen. Hatch for poising America by fostering this quackery).

Good luck.

There is no way of telling what you will get.

50. So did estrogen
I remember interviewing the head of Ob-Gyn in a large metropolitan hospital for a malpractice case I was handling, and, as we chatted, he very casually threw this out: "Every peri- and post-menopausal woman should take estrogen."

Well, he's dead now, estrogen supplements are dangerous as they were prescribed and used, and anyone who doesn't believe that Mother Nature has a plan when the hormones run out, and who thinks he or she is going to override the Big Momma is going to run into serious, dangerous trouble.

Good luck with testosterone supplements, man. You're gonna need it.

57. Estrogen supplements were a boon to many women who took them
However, with many women who smoked it caused a shitload of problems. You more than most should know that medicine is based on some assumptions and guesses - esp. in gerontolgy.

The fact of the matter most folks were dead by 45 the way we evolved. We have the amazing lifespans because of a few things, mostly infectous disease control and closed sewers.

Like it or not, we are looking a a longer future and we must learn how to function at a higher level longer because of our longer life spans.

56. Testosterone feeds prostate cancer tumors
Actually, testosterone feeds all kinds of cancerous tumors, and doctors treating cancer try to reduce testosterone levels rather than increase them. Taking hormones to preserve muscle mass at the risk of encouraging malignancies is like playing Russian roulette. There is likely a natural reason for the body to reduce testosterone production as it ages.

What was California thinking? And all those rumors of Arnold wanting to re-district in that state. Is it any wonder many are in an uproar over this for the obvious reasoning of redistricting dems into repuke areas.

As for Ms. Shriver. Shew, what can you say. Imagine what her father would be thinking had he lived.

Arnold may be the next little project for the dark swami of death.

KKKarl's just clearing skeletons from the closet for 2008.

('Arnold admitted the mistakes of his childhood way back in 2005 on national television...')

If you can convince enough of America to vote for enslaving themselves (twice), then changing the constitution will be child's play.
