CBS Producer on Flawed Bush Report Resigns
By LYNN ELBER
AP Television Writer
February 25, 2005 - 6:43 p.m. MST

LOS ANGELES — A producer involved in CBS's discredited report on President Bush's National Guard service resigned Friday, nearly two months after an independent report criticized the handling of the story.

Mary Murphy, another producer and an executive were asked by CBS to leave because of the "60 Minutes Wednesday" report, but she was the first to do so. A third producer, Mary Mapes, was fired.

"CBS News and I have reached an amicable resolution, and I have resigned my position," Murphy said in a statement.

1. Where are the resignations over the
Swiftliars? Where are the resignations over the fake WMD reports? Where are the resignations over Jeff Gannon? Where are the resignations over torture? Where are the resignations over the Plame leak? Need I say more?

2. damn straight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wth??? how can we have accountability at CBS and CNN, but we can't have ANY, I repeat, ANY, I repeat one more TIME, ANNNNNNYYYY responsibility out of the White House?

Rummy tried somewhat to be accountable by attempting to resign, but because he has an ego the size of my butt, he stayed after Bush supposedly said no to his resignation letter.

McLellan is still there, how? this gannon thing is HORRIBLE to hear about.

and finally, the worst,

CONDOIMATOKENBLACKLEEZA RICE puts a negative caste on ethical black politicians everywhere because she's still around after LYING about tons of 9/11 stuff... most notably that there were no reasons to be worried about Osama before 9/11.

But, CBS, they're just sooooo despicable for running a mostly true but flawed story on bush, with fakes (cough rove cough!) provided by an anonymous source! Oh yeah, SHAME ON CBS! (good grief! so sad isn't it?)

3.  And they still can't prove the document was forged!
And they admit the signature was authenticated? What is the problem then? The secretary said the content was accurate. How is this sloppy? How are these people proven guilty of anything? Someone needs to explain this to me.They were even exonerated from political bias. I think Murphy got a lot of cash from Moonves. Betch her "resignation" was cooerced and she has grounds for damages. I think the same thing is happening with the others. That is why they didn't dare disipline Rather, even though he was retiring.

5. Why do they keep calling it an independent report?
When we know that it was put together by two Republican thugs?

6. This reminds me of innocent people who plea bargain in court.
You have to be facing a worse alternative if you're going to agree to have your reputation be smeared, which is what's happening with CBS's employees.

This TANG memo fiasco is like someone plea bargaining down to involuntary manslaughter, when everyone knows the judge is the one who was driving the car and ran over the victim, but everyone is acting as if they're powerless to do anything about it.

7. If this is the standard, every newsie reporting Powell's UN speech
should resign. They reported all his evidence without attempting to authenticate it. Within a day or two, parts of it were debunked!

9. This just proves that
the Corporate Infotainment Industry does not serve as the FREE PRESS in America. They are being "purged," just as the CIA has been purged of personnel not willing to go with the GOP "party line."

Do not expect CNN, Fox, NBC, ABC or CBS to offer any real investigative journalism or truth to the American public about issues that would embarrass or shed light on the mechanisms of the Bush Administration in particular or the Republican Party in general.

The Infotainment Industry now serves as a GOP controlled media machine; the FREE PRESS in America has moved to other outlets.

This is the reality.

11. Well
When they released the new family guy episodes (completely kiddified of course) on fox, I found one very interesting thing. In one episode where brian is talking about the end of the world and how it may happen in a musical piece, one of the tarot cards depicted president bush as a cause to the end of the world as a joke. It had been altered so bush was no longer in it.

I don't think it's just a matter of media. I think bush is changing the entire nation to not be allowed to speak out against him. It's frightening when you pay attention to the subtle jests at bush and notice they're simply disappearing. I think freedom of bush related speech as we know it is dead.

12. Let me sum up:
You can lie about the most egregious things, but you dear, "free press" are simply not allowed to tell the TRUTH about Herr Emperor Bunnypants.

No no no.

Gutless wonders all..which reminds me..in that editorial the other day on the front page..being ordinary is simply not good enough. I thought that was an excellent point. These are extraordinary times of crisis.

Men and women of courage are needed. Anybody know where there are any with journalism degrees on Teevee?

13. Yet Fox news continues to spread lies and distortions.
Fox News lies each and every day but nobody bothers to call attention to it.

14. "And the truth shall set you free"...in this case, "freedom" has a...
...far different meaning in that a producer has been "freed" from her job for daring to air the truth that was NEVER discredited by anyone.

You're either with the Junta, or you're against it.
