PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) - Dozens of young men burned tyres and threw rocks at UN peacekeepers in a Port-au-Prince slum yesterday, accusing them of standing by while Haitian police shot dead at least two men whose bodies lay in the street. UN troops said they did not know how the men died.
Brazilian troops in jeeps and light artillery vehicles drove up and down a major street in Bel Air, a popular slum filled with supporters of ousted President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, with M16s and rotating machine guns at the ready.
"No more UN! No more UN!" many screamed as they hurled rocks and then ran behind parked cars. UN vehicles stopped often but did not fire.
