Evangelicals to target abortion clinics
A MILITANT evangelical Christian group plans to target pregnant women and medical staff at abortion clinics in Britain, taking their cue from US anti-abortion groups, a newspaper reported Saturday.

A member of parliament will make a written statement to the House of Commons next week calling on Home Secretary Charles Clarke to investigate the activities of Christian Voice, The Times newspaper reported.

Adopting the tactics of fundamentalist Christians in the United States, Christian Voice pickets buildings and displays the home addresses and phone numbers of its targets on the internet, it said.

37. It's "terrorism",...threatening civilians with violence over a political,.
,...issue. Of course, these "terrorists" view themselves as crusaders out to save the world and so they consider themselves ordained by God to wage violence. :eyes:

Too bad they can't seem to deal with the lives we all agree exist instead of engaging in violence over lives not yet in being.

4. Hypocritical KKKooks
"The taking of innocent blood brings judgment on our land and cries to Heaven for vengeance," (Stephen Green, Christian Voice leader) was quoted as saying.

I might respect fundies if they got half as riled over the innocent blood being spilled in Iraq.

7. Interesting that they support the death penalty for juvenile offenders
Since 1997, only four countries have executed individuals who committed crimes before the age of 18—the United States, Iran, Pakistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

As of October 9, 2002, a total of 82 juvenile offenders remained on death row—42 (51 %) awaited death in Texas or Alabama.

U.S. states have executed 18 juvenile offenders since 1990, including three in the year 2002.

16. These types of people don't peacefully protest
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 07:14 AM by depakid
They intentionally cause emotional distress among women attempting to have legal NHS medical procedures, they potentially endanger women's lives, and have a tendency toward violence.

And the UK, with its history with the IRA, isn't going to put up with it. If they're smart, they'll aggressively investigate these groups and target them with conspiracy laws- before anything bad happens.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1501029,00.html

The article mentions what I opined in an earlier post- people aren't going to take American style militant fundies lightly:

"Mr Green.... claims that Hindus are wicked and Said: “We would like to reach out to Muslims and tell them they cannot find salvation in a dead Prophet.”

He... became a full-time activist 15 months ago. Mr Green told The Times that he is not sure why he feels so strongly: “Perhaps the Lord thinks I have got a certain gift. With all the hate mail I have been getting, I am obviously rattling Satan’s cage.”

34. Apparently you missed the "protests" at womens clinics of the 90's
vandalizing and bombing clinics, killing doctors, taking pictures of people entering and license plate information from cars entering the clinic and then spreading their information in the local communities. Don't say "But they only want to protest." that is how it started here.

Because in real life, I have had to deal with these nuts before- and it nearly became violent. Apparently, you haven't- or you'd be less apt to make that kind of statement. While I have a degree of tolerance for assholes, the ACLU I'm not.

Moreover, you seem to have little or no understanding of the UK. Like most Americans, you probably don't realize that there isn't any such thing as the First Amendment in Britain- in addition to which, they have a long and sordid history dealing with religious extremists of one sort or another. If you think for a minute that the authorites (or the populace) are going to stand by and let American style fundies get a toehold on their Island and start stirring up trouble, you are sorely mistaken.

18. You mean - "shouldn't we be able to murder people we disagree with"
'Cause that's what eventually happens in these cases. It's terrorism, plain and simple - inciting riot or otherwise putting people in a situation where violence is more likely to occur is in itself a violent non-Christian act.

39. No right to harass women and advocate violence...
If you don't agree with abortion, that's your business but I don't want you in my face. I don't want you screaming and shoving pictures of fetuses at my daughter if she goes into a clinic, and I don't want you targeting and killing our doctors and nurses; and destroying property.

10. And we should target Evangelicals
for they are no different from the Taliban and Wahabis who spread their theology of intolerance and hate.

If they preach hatred, intolerance, misogyny, and homophobia from their pulpits, then they should be prosecuted as a threat to society. They are the ones that want to impose a theocracy in every country that they infest. They are the ones that don't want a separation of church and state. They are the ones that have declared war on all those that don't believe in their religious myths. They are terrorists!

Religion is the opium of the people!

from all the activity that has been reported, then yes, we should in turn protest them with all the same energy and hatred that they bring to their protests. I'm all for protesting in front of some of these "houses of worship" (or hate-spewing mind control clinics if you prefer). I am not saying all of these evangelical churches are like this - I'm sure it's only maybe 1%, but don't go saying I am anti-religion when we go and target that 1% of hate mongering terrorists.

22. first off, they're not "abortion clinics"
Calling them "abortion clinics" allows the fundies to frame the issue. More accurately, they should be better referred to as women's health clinics, since they offer a wide range of health services beyond merely providing abortions.

30. Evangelicals to target abortion clinics.....WITH THEIR BOMBS AND BULLETS
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 10:44 AM by Concerned GA Voter
I'll never forget when the clinic across the street from our favorite haunt in B'ham got bombed. These people don't ever really take a stand against murder...it's perfectly acceptable when they're doing it, or when someone can claim it was done because GAWD wanted those sinners to die. These people are the lowest scum on this earth, and they make it very difficult for me not to develop a bigotted view of Christians.

31. Radical Christians to target abortion clinics
Times
By Laura Peek and James Doran in New York

A MILITANT evangelical Christian group plans to target pregnant women and medical staff at abortion clinics as it steps up its campaign against what it calls a tidal wave of filth, The Times has learnt.

An MP will make a written statement to the House of Commons next week calling on the Home Secretary to investigate the activities of Christian Voice, which shot to prominence with its campaign against Jerry Springer — The Opera. Adopting the tactics of American fundamentalist Christians, the group pickets buildings and posts the home addresses and phone numbers of its targets on the internet.

Last week, a cancer charity turned down a £3,000 donation from the show after Christian Voice threatened to picket its clinics if it accepted “tainted” money from the show.

Abortions in Britain have reached a record level. In 2003, the total number of abortions was 181,600, compared with 175,900 in 2002, a rise of 3.2 per cent. The number of girls aged 14 and under having abortions is above 1,000 a year.

32. "Homosexuality is a pathology/psychological disorder":
Just how good does this story get?

"Mainstream Christian groups distanced themselves from Christian Voice, which also lobbies against homosexuality and is preparing to launch a campaign against sex education in schools. Mr Green, the author of a virulently anti-gay book called The Sexual Dead End, said: “Homosexuality is a pathology, an emotional or psychological disorder. It is a very sad thing but it is something you can get over. "

is where these fanatics get their funding from. I know several Church of England members who are really afraid of their church being taken over by the American Religious Right. And I can just see the right over here rubbing their hands at the prospect of carrying out a Bush style coup in this country too (but since Bliar will have got in there first, they'll find themselves on the sidelines again).

41. My Dentist in Planned Parenthood Building
Some years ago, I went to my dentist's office for an emergency root canal. A small but very group of picketers were directly in front of the entrance to the building carrying signs and chanting. Yes, I KNOW that was illegal to be that close to the entry way. About two or three cops were standing across the street doing nothing about it. As I approached the building one man came up to me and blocked my way. Not only I wasn't even pregnant, I was in my mid 40s at the time. Planned Parenthood was only one of about 10 offices in that building. I don't remember what he said to me and didn't care either. All I wanted was the PAIN in my TOOTH to go away. I told him, "Get OUT OF MY FACE. I am going to my dentist for a ROOT CANAL. I am not a very happy camper right now. If you don't get away from me right now, I will not be responsible for what I DO TO YOU." The look on his face was PRICELESS.
