"They declared the emergency as a normal precaution," Whitemon said. "Aside from the fact there was a haze in the cabin, it was a normal landing."
The plane left Fort Lauderdale at 11:06 a.m., and passengers smelled smoke about 20 minutes into the flight. The plane landed in Orlando at 12:15 p.m., according to Kathleen Bergen, a Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman in Atlanta. She said there was no fire.
"The preliminary report was that there was an indicator of smoke in the cockpit," Bergen said.
