Democratic National Committee, Pelosi weigh in on Gannon scandal, credentialing
--------------------------------
2/27/2005
By John Byrne | RAW STORY Editor
--------------------------------

(snip)

The DNC’s national spokesman, Jano Cabrera, said the Committee had particular concern with what they see as a deliberate strategy by the Bush Administration to manipulate the media. The office of DNC Chairman Howard Dean did not return a call for comment placed Friday.

“We have concerns as to how Jeff Gannon got into the White House briefing room on a serious basis,” Cabrera said.

“We’re talking about gaining access to the White House on regular basis under a false name,” he added, “and even if you were to set that issue aside, it’s part of a pattern for this White House, whether they’re paying journalists to get out their message or providing partisan journalists to ask favorable questions–they’re using the media in a way that previous administrations did not.”

Pelosi’s spokesman echoed Cabrera’s concerns about credentialing and Gannon’s role in the White House.

“How does he get credentials when he didn’t credentials here in the House and Senate gallery?” Pelosi spokesman Brendan Daly asked. Gannon’s access “just feeds into the whole notion of advocacy journalists. It seems very often that Scott McClellan would say, Jeff do you have anything?” in search of a softball question.

1. Freedom of Information Act filed by Conyers was a great idea.
It's good to see this story hasn't lost steam where it counts, in the house and senate.

3. Those are ALL quotes from spokespeople
So why the superfluous jab at Dean for not returning a call when the DNC spokesperson had already commented?

10. I think they were talking about Dean's office specifically...
...I don't know who Deans spokesperson is but I would guess that they are separate from the DNC?

12. That isn't a jab at Dean. It is merely reporting a fact. So, what?
He probably just hasn't commented yet or the DNC spokesman is the conduit.

13.  I agree, the person who responded is official spokesperson..
Did appear to be superfluous. Spokesperson chosen last year. I guarantee you Dean better be careful about going around an official spokesperson at this stage.

Do a search on the name. He was chosen last year. I see comments at raw story being highly critical of Dean, and that is just wrong.

4. White House Shame - Unchallenged Proliferate Propagandization
I have written our Senators and Congresspersons to encourage outrage. Every newspaper or other media should express editorial outrage. "The media" has been made fools of by this White House far too long. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." (old saying, attributed variously to the Scottish, the Native Americans, and the Chinese) Encourage your local media to show some interest in giving the White House an "accountability moment" for their unchallenged proliferate propagandization.

6. We need to "spin" this in words even a IGNORANT GOPer will understand.
That's the only way to get this as an "issue".

14. it's just gotta be done, as it states this is a 'deliberate strategy
by the Bush Administration to manipulate the media.'

It's not about him being gay at all as the defenders are so urgently trying to sell.

It is a serious issue and it needs to be addressed. The big picture of plants and propaganda, using taxpayer money.
