Syria May Send Peacekeepers to Iraq
DAMASCUS, Syria - Syria would consider sending peacekeeping forces to Iraq if a deadline is set for a U.S. troop withdrawal and if the United Nations assumes control of its war-ravaged neighbor, a Cabinet minister said Monday.

Syria, a U.N. Security Council member, has opposed the U.S.-led war and occupation of Iraq.

"Syria would be ready to send troops to Iraq only after the United Nations has the final say in Iraq and if a deadline for the American withdrawal (from Iraq) is put," said Bouthaina Shaaban, Syria's new minister of expatriates, in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

"Then the Arab League, including Syria, would review an Arab contribution to rebuilding Iraq," she added.

3. Smart move
IF they had voluteered to send peacekeepers with no questions asked, then how could Bushco dare invade them while they're helping?
Just the fact they offered makes them look good.

7. Actually, if you listen to the 'non-NeoCons' talk about Syria
You'd hear them talk about how badly Bush f*cked up relations with them. The younger Assad was actually helping out quite a bit on the War on Terror front, insofar as providing the best information we had on al Queda (being Ba'athists, they see al Queda as a threat, too).

All the neo-cons chest beating about Syria has messed up that relationship, however. It's unfortunate, since they really never gave the younger (new) Assad a chance, and the neo-con war talk has only strengthened the older hardliners in Syria to the detriment of any reform plans Assad (the younger) may have had.

At least that's my impression of things.

5. "loan us your troops and we won't invade you?"
oh wait. we can't invade you anyway because all our troops are tied down in Iraq.

I know! Send in your troops to relieve ours, so we CAN invade you!

6. They'd better watch out:
once they send troops to Iraq, Dubya may invade them for invading Iraq. But what if Syria sent the troops UN agreement? When have UN policies stopped Dubya?
