EU backs Russia over Iran, despite US protests
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1514&ncid=732&e=2&u=/afp/20050228/wl_mideast_afp/irannuclearrussiaeu

LUXEMBOURG (AFP) - The European Union and Russia joined forces over Iran, denying that a Moscow deal to help Tehran power up its first nuclear reactor will undermine EU-led diplomatic pressure on the Islamic state.

The EU, ignoring US protests, said it had no problems with the weekend deal for the Russian-built power plant at Bushehr in southern Iran, a project the United States alleges is part of a cover for weapons development.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking after talks with EU leaders, meanwhile urged Americans to take a "more active" role in Europe-led diplomatic efforts with Iran.

"I'm sure the US share the same objectives and we would welcome more active US involvement in bringing these things," he said.

1. "I'm sure the US share the same objectives"
Wrong. Bush is NOT interested in diplomacy -- see Iraq.

Or maybe that was sarcasm?

5. With Russian techs arriving at Bushehr it makes employing
the Shrub Doctrine method of bombing that with which you do not agree much dicier.

For his part, Rumyantsev said that a number of Russian installation specialists are scheduled to arrive at the Bushehr Plant soon.

"We are coming up with arrangements to make up for the delay in implementation of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant by sending the reactor's equipment," he said.

"We will do our best to implement the Bushehr Power Plant in the best possible way," Rumyantsev concluded.

It was a nice touch on the part of the Iranians to name the new nucular plant after our popular preznit, though. ;)

10. Funny how ALL the neocon plans are falling like lead balloons.

Look at the PNAC documents. None of their plans are working out. Quite the opposite, in fact. The world is gathering together to thwart eveything they worked so hard for.

Perhaps their mistake was picking that ham fisted coke snorting Mad King George as their front man.

11. Russian and the EU are shutting Bush down
Bush and his minions are being shut down by the rest of the world. They are telling him, and McCain, and anyone else who thinks we still have the power to push the world around, to stick it. Let us hope that we have some time before euros become the currency of oil, because they may be heading there. They smiled and smiled at Bush, and then stabbed him in the back.
