States won't subsidize grid
http://www.dailymail.com/news/News/2003092251/

Electricity customers in southern states shouldn't have to pay for others states' inability to make tough energy decisions, several Southern governors and other speakers said today.

Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Northern and Western states didn't want to dam streams for hydroelectric power, didn't want coal-fired power plants because of air pollution concerns and didn't want nuclear power plants because of radiation concerns.

2. Good grief!

So, Huckabee is saying that Arkansas (and whatever kindred states he means by 'southern') are happy to dam their streams, pollute their air, and irradiate their citizens?

Gee, I can sure understand why he doesn't want to have them also pay the added price of energy where the plants can't externalize those costs to their local populace! :puke: (Not!)

What insanely contrived 'logic' is this? Hasn't he heard of Mr. Goodmechanic? "You'll pay me now or pay me later." When will it be so obvious to everyone that pollution, radiation, and ecological damage are real costs! They're (externalized) costs to everyone, across political boundaries, imposed doubly regressively on those least able to bear them and least in a position to benefit from the enterprise.

Lord have mercy. :eyes:
