Bremer Warns Senators of Terrorism Risks of Iraq Denied Rebuilding Funds
Bremer Warns Senators of Terrorism Risks of Iraq Denied Rebuilding Funds
By Ken Guggenheim Associated Press Writer
Published: Sep 22, 2003

WASHINGTON (AP) - Iraq could become a haven for terrorists if the United States does not provide money needed to help rebuild the country, the U.S. administrator told senators Monday as he urged them to approve an $87 billion spending request.

"If terrorists cannot find a congenial state sponsor, they thrive in chaotic environments with little or no effective government," L. Paul Bremer told the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Bremer's appearance before the committee began a weeklong push by the Bush administration for approval of its $87 billion request for Iraq. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn. said he hopes to begin debate on the Senate floor next week.

Bremer was defending the part of the request receiving the most scrutiny from lawmakers: $20.3 billion for Iraqi reconstruction. This includes $5.1 billion for training Iraqi security personnel, $5.7 billion for rebuilding the electricity system, $3.7 billion for water treatment and other public works and $2.1 billion for oil facilities. 3. Bremer must have has his clear-eyed conservative realist glassess On!
Their already IS an existing terrorist problem.

Rummy already admitted it that this was the PLAN all along; the reason we invaded Iraq in the first place.

Man, the Neo-cons really need to compare notes before they open their mouths.

4. Let me get this straight
We invade a country and dismantle its infrastructure. Now, unless we give all our tax money (what's left of it) to a bunch U.S. corporations who also happen to be big Republican donors and cronies to rebuild what we broke, we are increasing the chances of a terrorist attack?

6. These guys even think about what their saying?
""If terrorists cannot find a congenial state sponsor, they thrive in chaotic environments with little or no effective government," L. Paul Bremer told the Senate Appropriations Committee."

chaotic environments produced by lack of international laws and standards, systematic attacks on the integrity of international insitutions, global cop imperialism, illegal detention and torture, corporate cronyism--

OH that would explain Afghanistan I guess...

11. Bremer was in front of Senate committees today
Edited on Mon Sep-22-03 06:26 PM by realFedUp
Sat in front of Senator Byrd and Dominici (I think) asking
for $20 billion "supplemental" money. No other Senators were in
the room at the end and the Byrdman pleaded for another
hearing with Bremer with a full panel of Senators. Dominici
said there rarely was a hearing for "emergency" supplemental
money.
The Byrdman gave a short but impassioned speech about not
wanting to invade Iraq originally...that the costs of this
invasion and rebuild is more than the American people were
ever told about etc.
He was good and made his point in the record.

I think granting $20 billion is a big deal.
Let's all see an itemized list of where the money's going.
