Kelly naming would 'fuck Gilligan' - Campbell
sorry for the language, but it is currently the lead headline at the Guardian Unlimited.

"It would fuck Gilligan" if David Kelly proved to be the BBC journalist's source for his incendiary WMD dossier story, according to extracts from Alastair Campbell's diary published today.

Mr Campbell's second appearance before the Hutton inquiry was overshadowed by the diary, which appeared to show that both he and the defence secretary, Geoff Hoon, wanted Dr Kelly's name to appear in the press - although neither Downing Street nor Sir Kevin Tebbit, the permanent secretary at the MoD, wanted to be the ones to name him.

In open court extracts from Mr Campbell's diary - which he dismissed as hurriedly written - revealed that Geoff Hoon and Pam Teare wanted "get it out through papers then have line to respond".

Mr Campbell's entry on July 4 records: "GH and I agreed it would fuck Gilligan if that was his source.

(snipped the rest)

7. so damaging that Prime Minister Tony Blair's - News24
A British Broadcasting Corp report that said the government had "sexed up" the threat posed by Saddam Hussein was so damaging that Prime Minister Tony Blair's former communications chief wanted to publicly identify the weapons inspector suspected of being its source, diary extracts showed Monday.

Alastair Campbell, who recently stepped down as Blair's top spokesperson, told an inquiry that had the BBC report been true, the premier would have been forced to resign.

Extracts from Campbell's diary showed that he and Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon both believed that arms expert David Kelly could play an important role in disproving the report by BBC journalist Andrew Gilligan, if the scientist's name was made public.

So damaging they assassinated Kelly.

8. Where is the truth (buf)Hoon?
I don'tknow about you but I think it is very interesting howCampbell flatly contradicted what Geoff (buf)Hoon was saying just before him. Sad to see some people are still more interested in covering their own arses then admitting their own roles in this whole sorry mess.
