Officials to Get Update on Iraq WMD Hunt
By JOHN J. LUMPKIN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The man in charge of the hunt for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq is briefing senior intelligence officials in Washington this week but the public may not be told of his findings right away

CIA adviser David Kay is expected to complete his progress report to agency Director George J. Tenet soon, U.S. officials said.

National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice suggested there are no plans to release Kay's findings immediately. There had been expectations in Washington that the report would come out this month.

2. More from the article
Officials would not comment on what Kay has found. The Bush administration has not revealed any discoveries that validate the bulk of its prewar assertions about Iraq's weapons programs, and the findings it has talked about so far have been challenged.

This had led critics to suggest the administration's case for war was faulty or exaggerated.

3. Nah....
The "public" is paying for this war, is being asked to pay an additional 87 billion, Condi Rice, Bush, Tenant and David Kay ALL have salaries paid by the "public" but the "public" certainly shouldn't expect Kay's report to be made available to them.

5. Move along, now, there's nothing to see here.
The public won't be told about the nonfindings of the bogus hunt for the nonexistent.

6. The tangled WMD web...David Isenberg says...
On September 14 the London-based Sunday Times reported that the United States and the United Kingdom have decided to delay indefinitely the publication of a full report on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. The newspaper reported that British defense-intelligence sources had confirmed that the group's final report that is to be submitted to Tenet had been delayed and may not necessarily even be published.

7. Sounds as if this “progress report”…
Should have its title changed to the “dead-on-arrival” report.

11. "expectations in Washington"???
"There had been expectations in Washington that the report would come out this month."

Oh that's cute. Why bother being accurate when it's so easy to soft-peddle things for the Flying Chimp Administration? Gee, where'd those "expectations" come from? Huh? I dunno. Out of the air? People just get these expectations, nobody gives em any reason, yet there they are, that the story boys? No no no. Allow me to emend. The passage should read thus:

High administration officials including Colin Powell (9/7/2003) and others have been promising for MONTHS, in no uncertain terms, that Kay would issue a stunning, knock-em-dead vindication of the administration's WMD claims in mid-September.

See that wasn't so hard. And it has the all-important feature of making it plain that the current statements are a cowardly hedging and back-pedalling from their previous overbrimming-with-arrogant-confidence position, yes?

12. Now wait a minute, people
Let's not be so quick to criticize.

This progress report could contain WMD evidence as irrefutable as that ten-year old O-ring (from a 15-year old centrifuge) buried in that one Iraqi guy's front yard.

Remember???
