AP: Taliban Plans Attacks From Pakistan
AP: Taliban Plans Attacks From Pakistan

PAUL HAVEN
Associated Press

GHAZNI, Afghanistan - Intercepted phone calls show Taliban commanders have been orchestrating deadly attacks here and in other parts of Afghanistan from a safe haven across the border in Pakistan, a senior Afghan intelligence official told The Associated Press.

The resurgent Taliban forces - who were chased from Afghanistan two years ago by the U.S.-led war - are getting protection from Islamic hardline politicians and rogue elements of Pakistani security, Afghan and Western officials charge.

President Hamid Karzai, in a speech Tuesday to the United Nations, said that from "cross-border militant infiltrations to hateful teachings at places disguised as madrassas (Islamic religious schools), terrorism continues to make inroads into the space of peace and prosperity."

<snip>
The sharp rise in attacks comes as the West scrambles to increase its commitment in the country, a change of heart that analysts complain may be too-little-too-late after two years of foot-dragging.

2. This is a scary place. Lots of popular sentiment for OBL in Pakistan
and Musharif is doing a terribly delicate balancing act.

There's an excellent chance that OBL is being hidden there; why are we not dealing with this?

We need to deal with this before all hell breaks loose . . .

And India an Pakistan have nukes and they both want Kashmir, and on, and on . . .

5. There was a story a few weeks ago
in The Guardian and The Times of India that the US and Pakistan had agreed, in November 2001, to give bin Laden de facto sanctuary in the tribal areas, at least for the time being. Pakistan was said to be worried about domestic instability if bin Laden was captured or killed. Bush's motives we can only imagine.

3. Taliban? What Taliban?
"The Taliban was a sponsor and servant of terrorism. When confronted, that regime chose defiance, and that regime is no more. " That's EXACTLY what the Pretzel-Dunce told the UN this very afternoon! What's the matter with you????

4. The US and Pakistan
From the LBN discussion:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=102&topic_id=129553

Replying to a question on the proposed Indo-US-Israeli axis against terrorism, Fernandes said this idea had been floated recently. ‘‘When one of the countries in this axis (the US) has close links with Pakistan, which is the foremost country sponsoring terrorism, the axis does not seem feasible,’’ said Fernandes.)

We are the Taliban. We bought them, trained them, and they are ours.

Let's not forget that lovely Dickie-boy made the deal to give them $20M in April of 2001 after his visit to Afghanistan. They promised to not grow any more opium and were given money. Have often wondered if they still receive money from our government(our pockets).
