Diplomats: U.N. nuclear agency finds new traces of weapons-grade uranium
Diplomats say U.N. nuclear agency finds new traces of weapons-grade uranium in Iran

By George Jahn, Associated Press, 9/25/2003 13:59

VIENNA, Austria (AP) U.N. atomic experts have found traces of weapons-grade uranium at a second site in Iran, diplomats said Thursday. The development heightened international concerns about the nature of Tehran's nuclear activities.

The diplomats said minute quantities of the substance were found by the International Atomic Energy Agency at the Kalay-e Electric Co., just west of Tehran. They did not specify where at the site the uranium was found.

Earlier this year, U.N. inspectors found weapons-grade highly enriched uranium particles at a plant in Natanz that is supposed to produce only a lower grade for energy purposes.

3. The UN is only trying to hold Iran to its pledges
Iran's part of the non-proliferation regime. If it declares itself a burgeoning nuclear power and gets out of the system, they may get sanctions and all that to stop them from from building more nukes but, the reason there's inspectors is because Iran agreed to them.

The US' motives are less cut and dry.

4. Nuclear Non-Proliferation is a valid goal.
We don't want more nukes in the world. Period.

We don't the U.S. building more and we certainly don't want any other countries joining the nuclear "block party."

That said, I can see the enormous appeal to any country to obtain the weapons. Look at where Iran is: stuck between Iraq, Russia, Afghanistan and Pakistan (with India nearby). They live in a tough neighborhood.

Unfortunately, Bush* has reinforced the fears and desires of every small country with nuclear aspirations. They know that if they have nukes, we won't unilaterally attack them. They now also know that if they don't, we may.

Not sure where I was going with this, but I think my point is the nuclear proliferation is extremely undesireable, whether its justified or not.
