Mixed views on new voting machines (San Diego)
Edited on Fri Sep-26-03 09:11 AM by phoebe
Bear in mind that San Diego is the home of SAIC (notice that no mention is made of what SAIC actually does and that it is based in SD- 'nuff said) ... got love this one.."portions were omitted to keep information out of the hands of people who would want to tamper with the machines"

Touch-screen's flaws can be overcome

The new touch-screen voting machines San Diego County wants to use beginning next March have technological flaws that could compromise election results, but those problems can be fixed, according to a new study done for the state of Maryland.

The results of the SAIC study were released this week by the governor's office, who ordered Maryland election officials to proceed with the installation of the machines. Ehrlich said the study and its recommendations will lead to safe elections in Maryland.

Jones also complained that several portions of the study were omitted before publication. Maryland officials said the portions were omitted to keep information out of the hands of people who would want to tamper with the machines.

"I'm highly skeptical that they can fix things that quickly and that they can fix all of the flaws," Rubin said

1. I Have No Doubt That The Flaws Can Be Corrected

I also believe that Diebold/the current misadministration has a lot to lose in correcting those flaws and that a paper trail should be mandatory to prevent another Florida fiasco.

3. They're talking about software flaws
No paper trail (yet). Until there is the system is vulnerable, period.

Maryland officials said the portions were omitted to keep information out of the hands of people who would want to tamper with the machines.

Sigh.

4. Sidetracked by spin, again
The point is that these "certified" machines were already used counter to claims and assurances in the past. That fact is not even worth dismissing for the story line "but they can be fixed". What ckind of weakneed bottom phrase vote of confidence is that?

They still are bluffing past everyone with this garbage.

I wish the massive ad campaigns of Moveon.org would tackle making this scandal and make it an uneconomical, untrusted choice- and fast. The walls of cognitive dissonance are being gilded with fool's gold no matter what facts are out there.

What officials and representatives have been clued in? Who is NOT listening, or who is DOING anything about it?

7. I think this whole Davis recall thing is just a test of the voter fraud
system put in place by the Republicans.
