Sharpton Praises Kennedy's Stand on Iraq
WASHINGTON - Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy (news, bio, voting record), under fire for his criticism of President Bush (news - web sites) and the Iraq (news - web sites) war, got an outspoken defender Friday — presidential candidate Al Sharpton.

"This is the Kennedy tradition. We stand with you," Sharpton told the Massachusetts senator at a Congressional Black Caucus (news - web sites) session on the war. "You have nothing to apologize for."

Kennedy drew the wrath of top Republicans when he told The Associated Press last week that the case for going to war against Iraq was a fraud "made up in Texas" to give Republicans a political boost.

House Majority Leader Tom Delay, R-Texas, said Kennedy's comments were a form of "hate speech" and the Massachusetts senator owed Bush an apology.

Sharpton, in praising Kennedy, said the remarks reminded him of the politicians in the book by Kennedy's late brother, President John F. Kennedy. The book was "Profiles in Courage."

Kennedy smiled and acknowledged Sharpton's comments as the crowd of several hundred cheered.

Man. How is it that Al Sharpton manages to come up with the one PERFECT thing to say all the time?

I was re-impressed with Al Sharpton when I heard he got arrested protesting at Vieques a few years ago. Mark me doubly and triply impressed every time he speaks.

5. I know. He is just the BEST speaker! During the debates
he's usually the one who gets the most applause and cheers. He's obviously a real long-shot and my friend suggested that whoever does get the nomination should hire Al as his speechwriter!:-)

As for Ted Kennedy, it's about time the Democrats went after Bush*! The list of his transgressions boggles the mind! I agree: cheers for both Ted and Al!
