LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Thousands took to the streets of Hollywood on Sunday to protest the occupation of Iraq in one of several weekend demonstrations around the world criticizing the Bush administration.

An estimated 3,000 people took part in the peaceful march and rally, some chanting, ``George Bush, Uncle Sam, Iraq will be your Vietnam,'' while walking down Sunset Boulevard

2. Sweet! Fernando Saurez was there!
"Fernando Suarez del Solar of Escondido, whose 20-year-old son died in March while fighting in Iraq, led the crowd in chants of ``Bring them home now!''

``My son was a peace lover. He was a soldier for peace, not for oil,'' said Suarez, holding a picture of his son in his Marine uniform"...Jesus Saurez!

4. It's about time we took to the streets again...
Millions protested around the world (including the U.S.) in the run-up to the Iraq invation/incursion. I wondered how long it would be before the masses got out in protest AFTER the fact.

This needs to become quite common practice here and elsewhere, but especially here. YES!

7. Santa Barbara had about three hundred marching
It was our one year anniversary of the weekly peace marches in Santa Barbara CA. The marches had dwindled to a few dozen regulars, but many people showed up for the march, followed by a rally at the courthouse. Hannah Beth Jackson, our California assemblywoman spoke passionately about the USA PATRIOT ACT (need to repeal it!) and the betrayal of California by the Bush administration. There was some great street theater with a politician's parade carload of costumed Dick Cheney, Colin Powell, and the shrub in a flight suit--that drew a crowd and lots of laughs.

Many people chose instead to be out walking precincts to defeat the recall and Prop 54, the ban on collecting racial and minority information for medical, educational, and other government use.
