Much Iraqi defector information unusable-NY Times
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N29180753.htm

NEW YORK, Sept 29 (Reuters) - A Defense Intelligence Agency internal review determined that much of the information Iraqi defectors gave to U.S. officials could not be substantiated or was otherwise unusable, the New York Times reported on Monday, citing federal sources.

Also, some defectors from Iraq that the Iraqi National Congress had introduced to U.S. intelligence officials gave false information about their credentials and misled interviewers about how much they knew about the Iraqi government's weapons program, said the paper.

Other Defense Department officials, who defended the arrangement between the exile group and defense intelligence agents to the Times, said U.S. officials had already met the information with skepticism but it still helped improve awareness and helped confirm what agents already knew. snip

The arrangement between the United States and the exile group, which was funded by taxpayers, may have wasted more than $1 million, officials informed the Times, adding that they and others now question the credibility of the group's leader, Ahmad Chalabi, as well as doubt the Iraqi National Congress.

1. But it was used -coddling Chalabi
Cheney(& others) had swinging door to Chalabi & Iraqi National Congress. It was out in the news and this is just now being printed. "Slimy Shrub" wanted to invade and they used that info - Iraqi National Congreess, American Enterprise Institute - we invaded a country because we wanted to and used info from this bunch on purpose.

4. Wow , I'm shock!!!!!
It's about time this is being exposed in the media. INC has wasted a whole lot more than just 1 mil over the years, since 92. Gee, wonder who helped set INC up with US government funding!?! (Rhetorical question)

11. The "paper of record" is now officialy a White House tool
They didn't look into only using jailhouse snitches (that's what these people are) as the ONLY source?

If one of their reporters had gotten up from their desk and gone down to the street and asked the next cop they say walking the beat they could have gotten the answer.

8. Well, if it's unusable
I'm sure that the illegal detentions and torture by proxy will stop immediately! Right? After all, following an illegal and immoral policy on the off chance that something useful might turn up becomes even more illegal and immoral when nothing useful turns up. So, they'll quit doing this right away! Right?

No, huh?

9. "may have wasted more than $1 million"?
How about $87 BILLION?!

Dude, it's not just the pin money we provided for Chalabi's buddies--this information got us into the @#$! war.

But really, why blame them? They were only telling the administration what they wanted to hear. Blame the administration for being so hungry for a nice tasty imperial war that they 'didn't notice' problems that would not have gotten by an objective 6 year old of average perception and intelligence.

13. Weapons Of Mass Deception? - Email CBS/AP and TIME
Edited on Mon Sep-29-03 07:05 PM by dArKeR
In the run-up to war with Iraq, President Bush accused Saddam Hussein of "deception and denial" on his country's weapons programs. Saddam denied any such programs existed.

Now it appears possible both the United States and Saddam were duped. The U.S. might have been deceived by people who claimed Saddam was lying. And Saddam may have thought he was lying, but in fact told the truth.

Iraq's alleged arsenal of chemical and biological weapons and its suspected active pursuit of nuclear arms were the chief justification for the war.

No weapons have been reported found to date. An interim CIA report from chief weapons hunter David Kay expected this week, while preliminary in nature, will apparently include no evidence of the suspected weapons stockpiles.

It is even possible, the magazine reports, that Saddam himself did not know that his WMD arsenal had ceased to exist. The Iraqis running Saddam's weapons program may have lied to Saddam, boasting of fake weapons programs simply to get more money.

1. You've published a million times what a brutal man Saddam is. He'd kill anyone for any little thing... Everyone was afraid of him and feared being executed for the littlest things. But now you're feeding us quite a few people were giving him false, critical, information. Information on the national security of Iraq. And these people did this but weren't afraid of being executed for lying to Saddam? (Let's not forgot nobody knows the outcome at the time.)

2. 'It is even possible'... with the proof the journalist provide in your story I could also make the statement; 'It is even possible Bush knew the 9/11 attack was coming.' I think we have more evidence to support that than you have to make your below statement.

The American Media is disgraceful!
