Growth isn’t expected before mid-2004, study shows

Jessica Schlenk, an information technology project manager with a master’s in business administration and a decade at a major consulting firm under her belt, counts herself among the lucky. After 10 months of looking for a job, she has two offers.

“IT WAS NICE to be able to choose,” Schlenk says.
Not everyone will be as fortunate, according to a recently released study by a local high-tech consortium.
The first possible chance for significant job growth in the local technology field will not come before mid-2004, according to the study conducted on behalf of work force development agency O-Force, the Orlando Regional IT Consortium and Florida’s Information Technology Education Center.
Companies just aren’t spending money on technology. And when they are hiring, the applicant pool is so full, they can have their pick of experienced people.
“There are so many people out of work, (companies) can find exactly what they’re looking for,” Schlenk says.

safe this time and skip a few quarters. Tired of being wrong maybe. I feel sorry for those in the IT industry, but my general economic forecast (for the entire economy) is much more grim than that made by these bubbleheads.

I feel sure most unemployed people (not just unemployed IT people like myself) will vote ABB. I can't wait to do so, as it's this country's only chance for the economy to actually begin a recovery. And I'm so tired of these idiot pundits who claim "wait 'til (fill in the blank); that's when jobs will start being created." Bullsh*t. Employers will start hiring again when George W. Hoover's sorry @ss leaves the White House.

3. They try to hire more IT jobs overseas where the salaries are 1/5 of here

For this reason, I do not think there will *ever* be anything but job loss in the American IT sector. The growth will be overseas and Americans will be, generally, less skilled than our overseas competitors in only a few years.

4. That's exactly why I decided to

go into business for myself as an on-site PC repair geek. And I'm not doing a bad job of it, either!

I hope I never have to work for an established company again! It's much more fun to be the one in control, and the pay's pretty good, too!

5. A friend of mine works in IT

and they had a bloodbath today. 18 people out of about 50 in his office laid off. Having been there 20+ years, he is one of the lucky ones. He gets to stay and do the work of 3 people.
