Ohio replaces voting machine reviewer

09/30/03

Julie Carr Smyth
Plain Dealer Bureau

Columbus - Secretary of State Ken Blackwell has replaced a firm slated to help conduct the security review of Ohio's newly certified voting machines - after his office discovered that the firm had a financial interest in one of the machine makers.

The decision followed his office's discovery that an arm of Science Applications International Corp. had promised to make a $5 million investment that would benefit Hart Intercivic.

1. Thanks ATC
I'm off to research Compuware. I have done some work on Infosentry and so far they look pretty clean.
I love the way SOS Blackwell backpedals when he feels the heat. He is just another arrogant Repig with hopes of being the next Ohio Gov.

Will post if I find anything interesting. Mean time if any DUERS are familiar with Infosentry or Compuware, please post in this thread.

Of course, the type and depth of the review is what we need to watch.

2. SAIC
Isn't that the company who reported on the state of Maryland's use of DRE's?
What's the DU consensus on that report?

I do remember that over 20 critical failures of security were found. Did it surprise anyone here that SAIC didn't completely whitewash their report?

3. ALL correctible failures so no change in purchase recommended

A SAIC report that changes nothing is what I expected - and what we got. Diebold has no complaints and indeed claims vindication!

4. According to the Open Government site
Compuware Corp gave $12,000 in political contributions to Rep. John Dingell, a Democratic representative for Michigan. Is Dingell one of the good guys?
