US Muslim 'broke Libya sanctions'
A prominent American Muslim activist has been arrested by the US authorities and charged with illegally visiting Libya and breaking sanctions.

Abdurahman Almoudi, 51, is also accused of violating laws that ban US citizens from financial dealings with Libya, according to an affidavit filed by a special agent of the US Immigration Service.

Eritrea-born Mr Almoudi - who became a US citizen in 1996 - is the founder of the American Muslim Council (AMC), a non-profit advocacy group trying to promote participation by Muslims in US politics.

Correspondents say the arrest of Mr Almoudi - a high-profile activist who has been received at the White House on several occasions - is likely to trigger angry reaction from the US Muslim community.

"received at the White House on several occasions"?
I don't recall hearing about this. What was this guy doing in the White House?

1. YES, there are American Muslims who are trying to help the
plight of Muslims in the world. As far as the travel ban and in violation of sanctions, well, if one buys food in a country sanctioned, it's a crime. Take a look at the human shields being prosecuted, the ones who went to Iraq prior to this criminal war. One is a nurse who offered medical help in a hospital and is now facing a $10,000 fine and jail because offering "services" are considered an act against the sanctions.

2. According to Mr. Almoudi, he was there defending Hamas
The quote from the New York Daily News was "We are the ones who went to the White House and defended what is called Hamas". He personally gave $1000 to her campaign, which was ultimately returned, and spoke at a fundraiser with Hillary, given by the American Muslim Alliance Massachusetts chapter. This event raised $50,000, which was also returned. An interesting twist is that when she listed Mr. Almoudi's contribution on her SEC filing she listed his employer as "The American Museum Council" not the American Muslim Council.
