Dean Raises $14M in Presidential Race
<http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=694&ncid=703&e=7&u=/ap/20030930/ap_on_el_pr/presidential_money>

snip>WASHINGTON - Aggressive Internet fund raising helped push Howard Dean (news - web sites) to more than $14 million in the Democratic presidential money race Tuesday, while President Bush (news - web sites) made two last stops to pull in donations as the third fund-raising quarter ended.

Dean still has until midnight to top that amount.

6. Some numbers without $ sign:

> ...."WOODRUFF: Checking in on the Democratic presidential hopefuls,
> Wesley Clark has surged to the front in a new CNN-"USA Today"-Gallup
> poll of registered Democrats in California. The retired general got
> 19 percent, Howard Dean 15 percent and Joe Lieberman 14 percent. All

7. Clark's polling depends on if "General" appears before his name
I heard this on NPR's "All Things Considered" the other day. If the pollsters identify him as a General, he automatically does better than in those polls where everyone is simply identified by name.

And in the CNN-"USA Today"-Gallup poll that Judy Woodruff cites in the above transcript, Clark is indeed identified as "General" and all the other candidates by their respective titles.

Take a look at Question #20 at the following link:

8. That poll had a margin of error of +/- 6 points
Edited on Tue Sep-30-03 03:25 PM by JaneQPublic
Look at the fine print under Question #20:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/polls/tables/live/2003-09-28-recall-poll.htm

"Based on 369 Democrats/Democratic leaners who are registered to vote. For results based on this sample, the maximum margin of sampling error is ±6 percentage points."

============

That's a relatively big MOE, considering most polls have a MOE of +/- 3 points.

In other words, Dean could have 21 instead of 15; and Clark could have 13 instead of 19.

Of course, in fairness, Clark could also have 25, but you get my point.

10. and at 2:30 pm west coast time
7 Hours to Go: Full Speed
Your 5 PM bat stands at $14,221,499 through 179,798 contributions.

There was some blog unpleasantness there for a bit, but it didn't stop us and it didn't stop you. We're all in this together. It's our party, it's our country, and it's our democracy that we're talking about here. If we do this together, we cannot fail. If we all act now, once and for all, to stand up for a message of hope, community, and trust in one another, we can achieve it. Now is the time.

At 6:30 PM the CBS Evening News will be featuring a report on your bat. And click "continue reading" for information about attending tonight's taping of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, where Governor Dean will be tonight's guest.
