General (Clark) on March to Top
<...>

The speech in Wichita Falls, to a capacity crowd in MSU's Akin Auditorium, was the third stop in Texas for Clark on Monday. He started in Austin, where he received the endorsement of 18 state Democratic legislators, Clark said, and stopped in Fort Worth before coming to Wichita Falls. He was still working on the endorsements Monday night, meeting with state Rep. David Farabee, D-Wichita Falls, following a brief news conference prior to his speech. Attempts Monday night to contact Farabee, who represents the 69th Congressional District of Texas, were unsuccessful, however.

<...>

"There's no real economic policy in this country," he said. "I put out a jobs policy eight days after announcing my candidacy that's better than anything the Republicans have."

At the news conference, held prior to the speech, Clark said he would rescind the latest Republican tax cuts given to Americans who make more than $200,000 a year, which he estimated would raise $100 billion over three years. About half would be put into homeland security arrangements to strengthen the country's defenses against terrorist attacks, he said.

Around $10 billion would go into tax incentives "for small business to enable them to grow, to crate more jobs. Then we'd put $20 billion back to the states to offset the effect of the bad economy and the Bush tax cuts," he said.

<...>

"Forget making more studies. The scientific community agrees - global warming is real," he said. "We understand now that our environment is connected to everybody else's. If you don't believe that, look at China. There's a brown cloud there that's getting bigger and it's moving our way."

1. This quote
Edited on Tue Sep-30-03 09:51 PM by NNN0LHI
>>>"I generally praised them for being good Republicans in front of a Republican audience. I hadn't voted for them - I voted for Al Gore - but I wanted them to succeed for the good of America," he said, "but a lot's changed since May 2001."<<<

I consider myself a pretty partisan Democrat, yet I too had hope in May 2001 that Bush would succeed. And not because of my political party affiliation, but for the sake of my country and my fellow Americans. The cost of Bush failing at that point in May 2001 to me meant war, recession, high unemployment, and the weak just suffering more. Yes, I did not want to see my country to be in the position it finds itself in today either. So hang me.

for the good of America, should be his campaign theme and slogan. It answers the questions, and stresses both his patriotism (a word I usually cringe at, but somehow it fits Clark), and values.

4. That was my feeling too.
The economy was tanking. We were losing money on our retirement accounts. Why the f*ck would I want the guy to fail??? Sorry but, I wanted the peace and prosperity of the 90s to continue into the 00s. Why wish a failure that would bring so much hurt to so many people just for partisan gains.

Bush blew it. Those who were hoping for the best are not the enemy here. Bush is.

5. And that was still my feeling knowing full well the motherscratcher had...
...stole the election. Everyone is now getting hurt by Bush's idiotic decisions. Repugs and Democrats alike. There are a lot of people suffering because of this morAn. He has got to be beaten next year, or I fear for our country.

3. He's been a dem for a few weeks. He supported Repugs.
Why are certain Dems even considering supporting him? His excuse for helping them raise money is rediculous. You can hope for the best WITHOUT helping them raise money. The Dem power brokers are afraid of Dean and not because they think he may lose, its because they think he can win.

6. You're exactly right
And it sickens me. (The truth, not that you're right about it.)

7. Oh Good!
I have no idea who Eloriel is responding to, but if the "issue" raised sickens her, my guess is that it's probably fine by me!
