4. Could be an accident, too.
Edited on Wed Oct-01-03 12:07 AM by TahitiNut
I was nearly 'offed' twice in 'nam from accidental rifle discharges -- once only about 12" from my skull as I was sleeping and another time stitching up through the 2nd floor (plywood) where I'd just passed. (You wouldn't believe how stupid it gets sometimes.)

5. they are.
a friend said her brother, a lifer marine, saw a hummer taken out
when he was crossing a compound with a kid who was cracking up. he was taking him to the medics. He told her they are as low down as it gets and cracking up. They are -way, way too many- going mad.

Edited on Wed Oct-01-03 12:37 AM by Bushfire
There was another last week from Rice Lake, WI.

on edit: added link

"Spc. Paul J. Sturino died Monday, the result of what Army officials first described as a non-hostile gunshot wound. He was 21. Sturino was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division and was in an area south of Mosul in northern Iraq."

9. How many more
lives will be lost, limbs shattered, families torn apart, to satisfy the greed of the Bush gang of cronies? Dear Lord, deliver us from this man! pResident Idiot asked troops to pray for him; I pray every day that he receives what he deserves, and only God will decide what that is.

If I were him, I'd be very, very afraid to meet my Maker. If he is not religeous, and only mouths the words to manipulate, which is what I suspect, then may divine karma make sure that whatever he does here in this life, is paid for in the next. His actions will be responsible for whatever the decision is.

I only want to see him voted out in 2004, so that our country can mend. The tragedy is that he calls the shots, and others suffer the pain. Our country, our soldiers, the world, all need to heal.

13. Whether this was a suicide or an accident,
that soldier would most likely be alive if he hadn't been shipped off to satisfy the BFEE's blood lust for oil.

The chimp, Cheney, Rummy, Rice, Perle, Wolfowitz, Powell and everyone who voted for or in any way supported this clusterfuck took this guy's life as surely as if they had pulled the trigger.

14. Sounds like suicide
I suppose it's possible it's an accident, but suicide is very likely too. I don't expect the Pentagon to just admit someone committed suicide.

15. An official explanation currently is "friendly fire"
It's only mentioned in passing at the bottom of an article dealing with something else:

(snip) Elsewhere, a U.S. soldier was killed Tuesday, probably as a result of "friendly fire", at a base located north of the capital of Baghdad, according to the U.S. military Wednesday. (snip/)

16. Tell me again why we had to invade Iraq?
Every justification that bu$h cited for the "war" has now been shown to be a lie. Most of the world tried to stop Little Hitler, yet he pressed on. Congress rolled over and gave him carte blanche to do as he pleased.

Now, one or two or three troops get picked off every fucking day while a few of Poppy's Pals pocket profits. Hell, Viet Nam was completely justified compared to this mess!

:freak:

Thank goodness it was non-hostile! Imagine how much worse it would have been if the gunshot had been hostile!
