White House told not to shred papers
http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/ArticleNews/TPStory/LAC/20031001/UROVEM/International/Idx

WASHINGTON -- White House staffers were ordered yesterday not to destroy any documents, telephone records or e-mails as the Federal Bureau of Investigation launched a full-scale criminal probe into the leaking of the name of a CIA operative -- an apparent politically motivated attempt to smear a leading critic of the war in Iraq.

"I want to know the truth," said President George W. Bush, who was initially slow to react to the political maelstrom now swirling around allegations that White House staffers leaked the information. "If there's a leak in my administration, I want to know who it is," he said during a fundraising trip to Chicago.

If the President wants to know who it is, he already apparently knows who it isn't. The White House has flatly rejected as "ridiculous" and "just not true" suggestions that the source in question was Karl Rove, who is Mr. Bush's top political adviser and one of his closest confidants.

Unimpressed by the Justice Department's decision to launch a full investigation, Democrats continued to demand an independent probe.

7. There is very little produced in the White House that isn't...
...backed up on hard drives to which the Bushies don't have access.

6. There's a back-up system in the White House...
...that retains copies of all email and digitally created documents. That's how Ollie North and the rest of the Iran-Contra gang got nailed.

How much you want to bet that the CIA has planted eavesdropping devices all over the White House anyway?

11. How much do you want to bet
they've already planted a worm in the repository that forwards all the info there to a secured CIA server?

<snerk> If *I* can think of doing it.....

5. really?
If he wants to know so badly, why didn't he care until now? Why hasn't he asked people directly if they did it?

(I know, preaching to the choir. . .)

10. The statement of "I want to know the truth" is very similar to...
...the statements made in the past by other GOP occupants of the White House. For instance:

"I was out of the loop on Iran-Contra" - George Bush I

"I knew nothing about Iran-Contra" - Ronald Reagan

"Oswald was the lone assassin" - Gerald Ford

"I am not a crook" - Nixon

"We're not sending spy planes over the Soviet Union" - Ike

12. What a charade?
Checking phone records. Saving old documents. Collecting emails. They know what happened. They're just stalling until they think everyone will forget about it. The proof will be in the pudding. Let's see who they come with. Right.

15. Bush asked and got
According to a NPR interview, Bush asked the DOJ and got another day before the word went out to save important data. The fix is in. Now the fix can become the story.

> Bush asked the DOJ and got another day before the word went out to save important data.

Bush asked? Bush personally obstructed justice here? Did he ask Ashcroft directly?

17. I'm betting
That way before the CIA ever asked for this investigation formally that all the evidence that was ever necessary had been gathered and documented and distributed wherever the need may be.

The stall by the WH is just that....a stall to see if they can buy their way out of this or to try to identify where the next shot is coming from. I think that the Bushco crew have been ambushed and they know it.

The CIA knew if Bush was jammed up on Iraq that he would destroy them first by blaming everything on them and replacing the agency with his own PNAC spook system. This is about survival, not politics or honor or patriotism.

21. Gee, I feel
assured they won't tamper with the evidence. They would never bury damning evidence like they did with 9/11, the enron/taliban energy meetings, and poppy/reagan papers. We can all rest easy, asscracks on the case!
