Bush wants more funds to show Iraq had illicit weapons
Bush wants $600 million to press Iraqi arms hunt
By JAMES RISEN and JUDITH MILLER
New York Times

WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration is seeking more than $600 million from Congress to continue the search for conclusive evidence that Saddam Hussein's government had an illegal weapons program, officials said Wednesday.

The money, part of the White House's request for $87 billion in supplemental spending on Iraq, comes on top of at least $300 million that has already been spent on the weapons search, the officials said.

The budget figures for the weapons search are included in the classified portion of the administration's supplemental appropriations request and have not been made public. The size of the administration request suggests the White House is determined to keep searching for unconventional weapons or evidence that they were being developed under Saddam.

The money is designed specifically to fund the activities of the Iraq Survey Group, made up of teams of troops and experts who are managed by the Pentagon but whose activities are coordinated by David Kay, a former U.N. weapons inspector who reports to CIA Director George Tenet.

11. Oh yeah, wonder what th cost i for a set of Nerve Gas Shells
all properly fixed up with original serial numbers removed (and chemical tags, possibly, that was probably their biggest hurdle).

About $600,000,000 for the R&D as well as the actual op?

9. Nothing the Busheviks can't set up for fraud and theft
Iknow, $400,000,000 will be sent to Halliburton Arms Inspectors.

You can bet your ass that, though it doesn't say so on the balance sheet, that is essentially where that money will go (if not Halliburton then other Bushevik Cronies).

10. Great Time mag article :"Chasing a Mirage" WMD's not there
Worth the read. It basically says that WMD were destroyed and SURPRISE SURPRISE Saddam lied about it hoping to stop a US invasion and keep the wolves at bay.

Hans Blix, head of the U.N. inspection team that entered Iraq last November and left just before the war, told Australian national radio two weeks ago that "you can put up a sign on your door, beware of the dog, without having a dog."

16. Very good article
I have been saying this for a long time. I think the idea kept going becuase it was part of Husseins power. It was brought up in the article that a bag of harmless white powder was thrown out of a helicopter and an uprising immediatley was put down, the people dispearsed.

18. I wonder how many times "Shelf life" has appeared in the Ameican press
I'd love to do a lexis/Nexis search on "Shelf life WMD" to see how many times it has been discussed/printed in the US. Most aren't aware that Chem and Bio only last for so long under PERFECT preperation and storage situations.

In Will Pitt's book with *sigh* Scott Ritter

13. 600 million for his re-election campaign...
He needs to find those WMD's--or plant them or else he is toast. The Bushes should never, ever, ever again be allowed to handle our nation's money.

19. Where do you sign up to become an inspector?
$900 million and 1200 inspectors....$750,000/inspector. Seems a little excessive. I guess you need to be a repub to get a job like this. Leaves me out.

22. No George, We have bought you enough toys
now go in the back yard and play with 87 million we already gave you...

I'd say that boy's parents didn't raise him right. So damn greedy - wants all the toys in the sandbox, then just abuses them and breaks them so the other kids can't play with them - and wants more!. And the lying.... I think we are going to have to call his parents into the office to see if we can't modify his behavior.
