Baghdad, October 2

A US soldier was killed in a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attack north of Baghdad late on Wednesday, raising the toll to three dead in separate assaults within a span of hours, a military spokesperson said.

"A 4th Infantry Division soldier died of wounds he received in an RPG attack on his convoy which was traveling by Samarra," at 21:00 (2230 IST), the spokesperson said.

The soldier was evacuated from Samarra, 100 km north of Baghdad, to a field hospital where he died, the spokesperson added.

It was the 88th death of a soldier in combat here since US President George W. Bush declared hostilities over on May 1.

Three US soldiers have been killed in Iraq within the space of several hours, all in separate attacks.

A soldier from the 4th Infantry Division was killed when a rocket-propelled grenade landed on the convoy he was travelling in near the Iraqi town of Samarra, south of Tikrit.

In an earlier ambush a soldier from the 1st Armored Division was killed and one was wounded in a gun attack while patrolling the Mansur district of Baghdad.

The third attack occurred in Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit, when a female US soldier was killed and three soldiers were wounded when a roadside bomb explosion struck their convoy.

2. And the repukes
are voting against repealing the tax cut as I read this. If I could I'd give each and every one of them a rifle and a one way ticket ti Iraq.
