Limbaugh said ESPN not prepared for reaction
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 10:57 AM by khephra
snip..........

In a speech at the Convention Center this morning to the National Association of Broadcasters, Limbaugh stood by his comments that the Eagles' McNabb is largely the creation of a "media" that is intent on fostering black quarterbacks. Limbaugh resigned from his position late last night as a commentator on ESPN's NFL pregame show.

"In my opinion it was not a racial opinion ... it was an opinion about the media," he said. "The great people of ESPN did not want to deal with this reaction."

snip.........

The host, whose comments have been assailed by voices across the political spectrum, said he would continue to speak his mind on his radio show, where he is free of critics who constantly kowtow to "corporate" interests.

In explaining his reasons for returning to his own radio forum, Limbaugh maintained that it is his liberal foes who “put codes on speech.” They often “band together” against his message, he said. “If they can scare enough people…they can take action,” he said.

1. So much for the party of "personal responsibility"
Rush is blaming ESPN officials for his retirement.

Man, I get so sick of the Repug hypocrisy.

3. And Rush undoubtedly just broke a deal with ESPN
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 11:01 AM by E_Zapata
They had to have given him the option of apologizing and resigning to preserve whatever was left of his alleged dignity. Just a big business courtesy -- let the guy resign.

And now he turns it back on ESPN as 'their fault'

ESPN better come out with a comment a lot stronger than they did yesterday.

5. It's the Drugs
This drug story is gonna be big, and I'll bet ESPN "asked" for his resignation so they wouldn't get caught up in it. Hiring him was stupid to begin with. Sports should be free from partisan politics.

6. I've always been irked...
by the RW tactic of taking something that embodies what they are which they obviously know is bad and twist it to make it look like those on the left are exactly what they are...

Serving corporate interests? Rush you and your boys do just that every single day....

Doesn't consider it to be racist? Well its not up to the speaker to decide what he says is racist or not, its up to those whom heard it to decide. (and yes it was racist)

7. Ratings soared with him on
Sometimes I just hate the sheeple. My bet is that African American sports stars pressured ESPN to dump him.

8. Probably The NFL
With all the scandals about sports figures doing drugs and acting above the law, the NFL probably pressured ESPN to cancel his a**. They don't want an announcer tied to drugs; the players do that on their own enough.

9. Ratings were up 10%. I wouldn't call that 'soaring'.
10% could easily be accounted for by lack of better programming or the fact that ESPN had better games this year.

11. Not True. Bad Analysis, That
I saw the ESPN suit talking about 10%. Turns out that the ratings for the first two weeks were higher than the AVERAGE(!) rating for the show last year.

Well, how did it compare to the ratings of the first 3 weeks over the last few years? Statistically the same!

He made no impact on the ratings of the show. That's disinformation spread by ESPN suits to rationalize their decision to hire him.

Now, they made a mistake, lied about the success of their mistake, and it's blown up on them. Good!

Man I feel good knowing that when these small corners of anti-Americanism are exposed, to more than just a hand full of losers,
Americans reject them. One for the majority.

I sent off a scathing letter and told them they should be proud their spokesperson spoke so clearly on their racial attitude. I hope my letter helped get rid of the gasbag.

18. 'codes on speech'
and 'banding together' Right wingers know what they do so they try to muddy the waters by acusing their critics of it. The idiot either doesn't know or won't acknowledge his statements WERE racist. And then he says he must be right because of the uproar.Duh, maybe they were upset because it was racist??? Ya think.... I have often talked to my repug bother about his lack of logical cause/effect arguments. That and hypocracy are hallmarks of the RWers.

19. Hah!
I was just thinking, just immediately prior to encountering this thread, that people like Rush with their "kinder, gentler" form of racism, are probably unaware that they're even racist, and that this would likely teach him the facts of life on the issue.

Apparently not. In true narcissistic mode, Rush blames ESPN, liberals, anyone but himself.

21. 30 Oxy pills a day - for resale for petty cash? - Rush the drug dealer?
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 02:39 PM by papau
I take Oxy on occasion - and it knocks me out - no way in hell those 30 per day purchased volume numbers equate to "personal use" for ear pain left after the 2001 operation "cured" him (although no one can find the Hospital that did the 2001 operation, so the 180 days missing from the air was probalbly just a drunk drying out at Betty Ford's.

24. Now lets get him off the radio airwaves.
I've tuned in to rush phlemball occasionally over the last few years, mostly to check out the latest spin releases from the bush*/republicans. I used to believe that the 1st ammendment covered his right to say whatever on his radio show. I defended his right to do so. It was not a popular position among my liberal friends....but hey, this is America (or used to be).

Since the build-up to the Invasion of Iraq, I've changed my mind about the 1st ammendment rights of broadcasters. I no longer believe that the 1st ammendment guarantees propagandists free and unrestrained use of the PUBLIC'S AIRWAVES. I don't believe bush*/republicans could have invaded Iraq without the help of flush and faux news. What these broadcasters did was the equivalent of yelling "FIRE" in a crowded theatre. They have the BLOOD of thousands on their hands.

Sleep well, Rush, Hannity, Savage, Coulter, O'Really, et al,.....for you will surely BURN IN HELL!!!

(pardon my judgement)
