Limbaugh doesn't address drug reports during Philadelphia speech
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/6913246.htm?template=contentModules/printstory.jsp

Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh said Thursday he resigned as an ESPN sports analyst to protect network employees from the uproar over critical comments he made about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

(snip)

Limbaugh did not directly address media reports that began surfacing Wednesday that said the talk show host was under investigation in Florida into whether he illegally obtained and abused prescription painkillers.

Premiere Radio Networks, which syndicates the politically focused "Rush Limbaugh Show," issued a statement from Limbaugh earlier Thursday saying: "I am unaware of any investigation by any authority involving me. No government representative has contacted me directly or indirectly. If my assistance is required, I will, of course, cooperate fully."

2. "I will cooperate fully"
I probably have heard that statement more times this week than in the last year. The quote is repeated, in these Republican times, almost as often as, "wants to spend more time with his/her family."

3. While he's in Philly.....
Rush should walk around south philly for awhile with about 50,000 eagles fans around him, haha.....we'll see how much oxycontin he needs then.

4. What a good person to protect his co-workers. Yeah, right. What I don't
understand is how anyone who has ever listened to him could not know that sooner or later, he would make that or another statement? His own radio show where he is the Saddam of what happens is totally different from national TV. I hope ESPN gets fallout from both sides on this one.

stockpiling maybe. Squirreling nuts against a dry season. But - delightful hypocrisy explosion prospect. However, waiting for the facts to emerge and reserving judgment on this topic. (He is already a certified evil-doer.)

9. So glad I didn't have to write the email to ESPN.
I was about to write an email to ESPN to request that they get their lawyers (not doctors) to get busy and lance that pus-filled cyst on their ass as manifested by Flush.

My dh listens to sports news to relax, not get worked over politics. That Hate-Monger couldn't let it go for even an hour a day (or however long the show is) so he ruined the gig he had been begging for. I guess he's in full blame-mode today. Ruck Fush!

13. Hmmmm
As much as I despise the man for all the damage he's done to the political climate in this country, for his racism and sexism, his classism and ageism, if he's addicted to Oxycontin, I DO feel sorry for him.

Oxycontin is a viciously addictive drug. Probably worse than any other we have. I first learned about it a few years ago when there was a local news story about this perfectly middle class professional man, about 35 or so, caught for armed robbery of a pharmacy because of his oxycontin addiction. His use started because of a back injury, then BOOM! he was hooked.

I'm not even sure there ARE adequate detox programs for this addiction.

Truly, of Oxycontin addiction is as bad as I've been led to believe, no human ought to have to go thru that. And if his addiction is as bad as described, his life may very well be over, 'cause I don't think there's any way out of this. ANY addiction is bad enough, and some are worse than others, but Oxycontin may be the worst of all.

14. I'm with you to a point, Eloriel.
Over and over, he's mercilessly trashed addicts and those jailed for drug crimes. If there was even a hint of "there but for the grace of God go I" from him, I'd be more sympathetic. It's the hypocrisy.

20. All of that is true
- I do not wish addiction on Rush or anyone else. that being said - I do not wish exposure to Rush's evil opinions and toxic attacks on anyone either. His followers are addicted to his hate speech and this may, just may, lead to cold turkey for them.

All of which REQUIRES a huge deflation of ego. So he has a choice: he can live, but he'll have to say good-bye to the old "Rush Limbaugh".

16. I took one little biddy oxycontin pill for pain once,
It was the longest, most horrifying night of my life:

Puking violently

then laying in bed face down all night - not asleep, not awake and voices, voices, voices. In essence, I kept myself awake all night rattling stuff off to myself. Yet I wasn't really awake.

Really awful.

And Rush takes 100/day?

I feel sorry for anyone hooked on that drug, but an addict does not lose ALL sense of reality and for him to get on the radio every single day and spew his shit 'conservative moral agenda that isn't' is reprehensible. The drugs, in Rush's case, is simply a symptom of a very dark character disorder that was in full swing before he ever got his hands on the miracle daymaker.

. . . but was actually busted for forging Xanax prescriptions. Antianxiety.

Hehehe . . . I had forgotten how she got busted for having a crack rock in her sock while in rehab.

Ahh . . . it's a beautiful day for the Libs.

19. This is rich . . .
I often listen to his show (keep your enemys closer and all that) and he periodically goes on and on and on about Oxy. I remember especially back a couple of years ago. Such a pointed example of the Right's hypocracy when it comes to drug legalization.

24. Speaking of keeping your enemies close...
Freeper land is suffering some kind of server meltdown...

If you can get past the 505's you can read all about how Rush, Arnold, the CIA leak, etc. are all part of a coordinated, all-out political assault on the righteous.

The mouth breathers are certainly in a tizzy.

I can't WAIT to hear what kind of tortured logic the wingnuts come up with to explain why Rush's problems deserve empathy and compassion, while the "dope smoking, maggot infested hippies" (to use Rush's term) deserve to rot in jail.

You couldn't take 100 tylenol in one day and live through it, much less oxycontin.

Which leaves us with the question....what the hell is he doing with that many pills?

25. If I had to guess
I'd say building up a stash. He's smart enough to know what a big fat target he is, and that every time he scores some he's risking exposure.

A few thousand pills would keep a serious addict supplied for years.

Unlike your garden variety addict Limbaugh has the means to really buy in bulk when the opportunity presents itself.

26. With Oxy . . .
. . . as with any painkiller, there's typically a rapid period of acclimation. From what I've read, he even admits to the housekeeper in an email that he's having to take more and more to get the same effects.

Evidently he's been to rehab at least twice.

28. Serious question...
I know many painkillers are mixed with acetominiphen (sp?) -- mainly to keep abusers from taking too many. Abusers will OD on the acetominiphen before they will OD on the opiate.

Are oxycontin's mixed with acetominiphen? If so there is a definite limit to how many anyone could take before dying of liver failure.

30. Nope -
Oxy is pure opiod with inert fillers (i.e. not acetominiphen) and layers included for the purpose of "slow release." (Which is destroyed when you crush or chew them).

31. Thanks...
Any idea what sort of tolerance can be built up? From what I've read they are quite powerful -- is it possible to need more than a handful a day to feed an addiction?

35. You mean kinda like at Sam's Club? Watch the hypocrisy from the right
now. "Drug abuse is an illness, not a crime, etc., etc." Tell that to the millions who have served time in this country for simple drug use/possession who the right have gleefully jailed as they elect their "tough on crime" nazis as prosecutors, legislators, sheriffs, judges, etc.:nuke:

32. I'd love to know...
...how much money Limbaugh has spent on drugs in the past few years.

Probably not as much as Bill "Book of Virtues" Bennet spent on his addiction, but still some serious change, I bet (pun intended).

36. .
Yes, your tolerance builds up the more you take. However.....these are not normal painkillers. Oxycontin is about a molecule away from heroin. The argument that he's stashing them under his mattress for a rainy day holds *some* water, but it still sounds pretty peculiar to me.

Why? Because you go asking a dealer for outrageous amounts of drugs, the risk rises exponentially for YOU, the junkie, even if you aren't the one buying the drugs. For instance, say his housekeeper never wore a wire, this whole thing never came out like it did, etc....if you're Rush, why risk her getting pinched with 1000 pills? I'd be afraid of her spilling the beans on me to save her skin. She ended up telling everything anyway, but you know see what I'm getting at. Of course, being hooked on something like oxycontin can turn your brains to mush....still, something doesn't quite add up here.
