Inspector Briefing Congress on Iraq Arms (Kay re:WMD)
http://www.abcnews.go.com/wire/World/ap20031002_889.html

WASHINGTON Oct. 2 — The CIA's special adviser in the search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq begins two days of closed-door meetings in Congress on Thursday, and lawmakers don't expect him to announce any major discoveries.

The last time Kay visited Capitol Hill, he hinted that a breakthrough was imminent in the search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. "The American people should not be surprised by surprises," he said.

As Kay returns, any reports of breakthrough would come as a surprise.

"There don't seem to be signs of it at this point," said Sen. Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee. "There is nothing that would lead me to believe that it (a discovery) is imminent."

Of Kay's appearance, he said, "I don't think he's going to have a lot to tell us."

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said last week: "We continue to believe that he possessed weapons of mass destruction, had a weapons of mass destruction program, and Dr. Kay is going to pull together a full picture."

1. The Big picture!
1) Bush* is a sock-puppet who merely reads what's put in front of him.
2) Cheney, Rumsfield and the PNAC boys call the shots.
3) Rove deflects incoming fire.
4) Object was/is control of oil. Period.
5) The entire Bush* cartel are criminals of the first order.
6) The BIG PICTURE is a BIG LIE!

5. Damn straight.

And re. Point #4,

Check out the conclusion from a recent Robert Fisk article I posted in the Editorials Forum

But the real irony lies in the nature of America's new power in Iraq. US oil deposits are increasingly depleted and by 2025, its oil imports will account for perhaps 70 per cent of total domestic demand. It needs to control the world's reserves - and don't tell me the US would have invaded Iraq if its chief export was beetroot - and it now has control of perhaps 25 per cent of world reserves.

But it can't make the oil flow. The cost of making it flow could produce an economic crisis in the US. And it is this - rather than the daily killing of young American soldiers - that lies behind the Bush administration's growing panic. Washington has got its hands on the biggest treasure chest in the world - but it can't open the lid. No wonder they are cooking the books in Baghdad.

In the article Fisk claims that incidents of pipeline sabotage are more frequent and serious than the US authorities are admitting, and they're "sexing up" Iraqi oil production figures to cover up how piss poorly they're really doing at getting the oil flowing again. He points out that a strategic error was made in the invasion by rushing in to protect the oil fields and negelecting any provisions for ensuring pipeline security.

While the major oil companies in the US stand to cream off billions of dollars if oil production resumes in earnest, many of their executives were demanding to know from the Bush administration - long before the war - how it intended to prevent sabotage. In fact, Saddam had no plans to destroy the oil fields themselves, plenty for blowing up the export pipes. The Pentagon got it the wrong way round, racing its troops to protect the fields but ignoring the vulnerable pipelines.

They love to use that band-aid for everything except of course when they compromise it by "outing" CIA agents.
