Schwarzenegger disputes alleged Hitler admiration quote
Schwarzenegger disputes alleged Hitler admiration quote
http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/10/03/schwarzenegger.hitler/index.html

"Disputing media reports of a book proposal transcript from the 1970s that paints a picture of a young Arnold Schwarzenegger as an admirer of Adolf Hitler, the California gubernatorial candidate Thursday said he doesn't remember making the alleged comments and has always despised the Nazi leader.

"I hated the regime -- hate the regime, the Third Reich, the whole Nazi philosophy -- have always fought against it," Schwarzenegger said at an hastily called news conference late Thursday."

Yeah, right!

1. He lied before, denying the reports of molesting women. He can do it again
Maybe he can say sorry and apologize??

2. His first response was... "I don't REMEMBER saying it."
Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 02:32 PM by Flubadubya
Well, that should tell you a lot right there. He doesn't actually deny he said it... just that he doesn't REMEMBER saying it. Hmmm... where have I heard that before?

Schwarzie is becoming a full-fledged politician right before our very eyes.

3. he has always fought against it?
his english is not the problem here, folks. i've spent a lot of my life in german-speaking countries, and verb tenses are not a problem for english-learners! english verb tenses are much easier than german tenses.

just when did he fight the nazis?

7. How can you not remember if you said you admired Hitler?
The very attitute of leaving it open, as if he MIGHT have said it but just can't remember, is expression enough that he's lying.

8. I give you odds that this is on film.
It was being filmed for a documentary during the filming of Pumping Iron.

12. It is on film...
Arnold payed 1 million dollars to buy it.

The are quotes from a trascript made before he bought the film.

If he want to prove it he can play the film for the press.

Bet he doesn't. What does that say?

9. This is a weak charge
If it isn't on film or in a reliable trancript, this should have been left alone. It's just going to rally the troops and distract from the real issues.

If he didn't say it let him play the

17. CUT!!! Arnold, you blew your lines!
Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 04:09 PM by rocknation
You were supposed to say, "I don't remember saying it--this was back in 1975, after all. But if I did, I shouldn't have and I'm sorry and I've grown up a lot since then." Then you were supposed to point out all of your anti-Nazi good deeds.

Calfornia, you're going to end up with your own version of the Pretzel-Dunce if you're not careful--a totally unqualfied dilettante who reacts inappropriately, has no interpersonal skills and can't work without a script.

15. Heard Hitler admiration from another source.
Not exactly from a horse's mouth...BUT...

A person once removed from someone who worked on PUMPING IRON said Arnold bought all the footage from an interview that he did in connection with the film for an undisclosed amount. I got an email today saying she was wondering when this would be leaked. She told me this months ago...but, of course, there is no proof now that he actually said that he admired Hitler.

If people believe his denial, there is nothing apparently that is to be done about it...but some of it will stick in the back of the mind...providing, of course, that one possesses such an item.

16. One that STAYED IN the film...
Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 03:56 PM by Hell Hath No Fury
has him saying that he grew up dreaming of powerful people, like dictators, who had done things that would be remembered for 100s of years, or thousands, like Jesus.

As I said, it was IN the film. I just watched it. And I don't think he meant Stalin....
