Celebrities urge 'no' vote on recall
Dozens of Hollywood big-shots took out a full-page ad Friday in the trade newspaper Variety urging Californians to vote "No" on the effort to recall Gov. Gray Davis.

The high-profile names in the ad include Amy Pascal, chairman of Sony's Columbia Pictures, which distributed the Schwarzenegger films "The 6th Day" and "Last Action Hero"; and Ron Meyer, president and chief operating officer of Vivendi Universal Entertainment, which distributed Schwarzenegger's "End of Days" and "Junior."

2. Glad for the help, but...
Are you sure that Amy Pascal and Ron Meyer constitute "celebrities"?

4. The celebrities are listed
but I wanted to highlight on the people who worked directly with him producing and distributing his films.

Celebrities include: Richard Dreyfuss, Danny Glover, Barbra Streisand, Larry David, Cybill Shepherd, James Cromwell, Stacy Keach, Rob Reiner and Pierce Brosnan, who appeared with Davis at a bill-signing ceremony on Thursday.

14. If these studio execs were involved with "The 6th Day"
and the "Last Action Hero", they are entitled to hold a grudge against Arnold. Where is the director of "Eraser" ?

20. In a way, LA is a "company town," and Hollywood is "the company."
So, yes, in those circles, they are celebrities.

16. I wonder how many are registered voters?
Registered voters aren't this stupid.

They have to be paid shills, to try and keep the democrats home on election day.

7. Apparently they do
but what I really want to know is WHY? Why vote for a candidate, why buy tooth paste, why contribute to a specific charity because a "celebrity" said it was a good idea?? Don't people have their own brains? the evidence seems to say otherwise. It would be different if they gave a reason other than, "do this, because I,Ms.(or Mr.) Somebody, think it's a good idea.

Unfortunately, I find a lot of people, by no means all of them Repugs, that actually will do it.

In California, the GOP is hoping that they'll be stupid enough to actually VOTE for one!

18. I've got no
problem when anybody endorses someone else, so long as they say something intelligent. I just think it is stupid to think Ted Nugent, or Barbara Streisand, has the intelligence and knowledge to tell me how to vote. It is a problem when either side does it for me because they are saying I can't look at the issues and make up my own mind.

23. Sheer laziness
more than pure stupidity causes people to let others tell them how to think and what to vote for. I saw a study once that showed that people who won elections often did so on "Likability" more than any other factor. What that person stood for, or what they had to say, had little or nothing to to with their electability. It was pure charisma. Depressing.

9. oh, if only these tapes would turn up and get played!!!
Let's go to the videotape.

Now that Arnold Schwarzenegger has apologized for his behavior toward women, perhaps he wouldn't mind if footage of his alleged groping of a British broadcaster against her will was released.

So far, Carlton Television in London is refusing to show a tape of a December 2000 show, "Celebrity," in which Schwarzenegger grabbed host Melanie Sykes at the waist. Sykes said that when she pushed the bodybuilder away and said, "Get your hands of me - I'm scared," he responded by grabbing her breasts.

"Apparently, there's a problem with a batch of tapes, and the Melanie Sykes thing is one," Carlton spokesman Murray Buesst told our Spencer Morgan.

Sean Walsh, chief spokesman for the California gubernatorial candidate, told us: "I don't even know that these alleged incidents took place."

Stay tuned.

12. Meanwhile celebrities like Bruce Willis support the recall
this is like being in the courtroom where each expert witness the prosecutor puts on the stand, the defense will have their own expert witness to rebut him. It's showtime!

22. Bruce WIllis appeared at a NO RECALL event with Gray Davis
Edited on Mon Oct-06-03 11:16 AM by nothingshocksmeanymo
unless you have some written proof, I think you are mistaken again.

Here's a snip from Sharon Davis' blog:
Monday, September 22, 2003

Who's Who
This past week was like no other in my twenty years of campaigning with my husband.

What made last week extraordinary was the number of national political leaders who campaigned with us to defeat the recall: Former President Clinton, Former Vice President Al Gore, Reverend Jesse Jackson, presidential candidates, Senator John Kery, Senator Bob Graham and Senator John Edwards (Gov. Dean was with my husband the week before).

Each brought their unique prospective, but they were all in agreement that it was important to defeat this recall.

I could end here and most people would agree that we had a very successful week, but there is more. With little fanfare four prominent actor supported our effort by attending a campaign event on Thursday: Warren Beatty, Annete Benning, Jack Nicholson and Bruce Willis.

Oh and BTW, Ceasar Chavez's right hand woman, Dolores Huerta appeared with GRAY DAVIS yesterday.

Once again, all you can do is throw barbs that have zero credibility to them.

Great job by the Dems, and it irritates the freepers. We need to get the base out and vote NO!
