Bush program ruffles feathers (* visit to Australia)
Parliament will be recalled on October 23 for a joint sitting to be addressed by US President George Bush. He will speak about how America and Australia can work together to eliminate terrorism from the Asia-Pacific region.

Prime Minister John Howard yesterday refused to give details of the trip, but was upstaged by a White House briefing to American journalists that contained minute-by-minute details of the President's movements in Australia.

The briefing named the Australian Prime Minister as "John Major" and was dismissive of Canberra as a destination.

The ACT's Tourism Minister, Ted Quinlan, described the White House as "bloody patronising".

"You would have thought that in the modern age, and in this year especially, that the Americans wouldn't be patronising anybody," Mr Quinlan said.

"You'd think they would just be a little more polite to their friends."

9. Mr. Quinlan
Do try to keep a straight face when Pretzelboy asks if you have "blacks" there. On second thought don't, braying laughter at him is what he deserves.

12. And how about this part?
It pinpoints his Parliament House arrival time as 9.55 the next morning and describes the speech he will give in the House of Representatives chamber to "the 226 elected representatives sitting on the floor in a semi-circle before him, and dignitaries and other guests above in the rafters".

Yeah, let's remind those plebs who's really in charge here...

14. Seated in a semi-circle before him...
Awwwww, how cute. Reliving his elementary-school performance on 9-11? Is he going to read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" to them, too? Have they been advised of the obligatory standing ovation for His Chimpiness' Royal Visit? Do they realize that I've still got US$138.62 here that I'll be happy to send their country if they'd kindly KEEP him?

13. Quote from the American embassy in Canberra
"A spokeswoman at the US embassy, Susan Crystal, said last night the embassy had not drafted the memo to US journalists and could not confirm the details of Mr Bush's trip. "

Translation from diplomatic language: "don't blame us for the idiots in the White House, who don't know anything about protocol, security, or even Australia. Look, we know we've got to work with you guys after the Asshole-in-Chief has gone, so cut us some slack, will you?"
