NEW YORK — A disgraced star banker making $120 million was warned that a criminal investigation of his firm might involve him just before he advised fellow employees to clean out their files, a government witness testified yesterday.

One of those fellow workers, former Credit Suisse Vice President Linda Jackson, testified yesterday that she reacted to the e-mail by starting to clean out her files, throwing away notes and other material related to deals the company had worked on.
Lawyers for Quattrone maintain he was doing routine end-of-the-year work when he warned workers to tidy up their files. But prosecutors say he knew investigators would seek some of those papers.
