Roy (of Siegfried and Roy) Critically Injured by Tiger

MSNBC said a minute ago that the degree of his injuries won't truly be known for days -- the tiger got him by the neck, so I would assume there is potential brain injury (from blood loss)as well.

-snip-

A nine-year-old white tiger attacked Roy Horn of 'Siegfried & Roy' during a Friday night performance on the Las Vegas strip -- the tiger's first time on stage, and the trainer's 59th birthday.

3. It was the tiger's first appearance

8. Exactly.
Unfortunately, this tiger will likely be "put down", because it will now be considered a danger to humans.

The exploitation of animals, wild or domesticated, by humans - simply for the sake of human "entertainment" - should be criminalized. I just can not wrap my head around the idea that these people think it's perfectly fine to raise wild animals in captivity, to be used for entertainment, and when an animal does something that is completely natural and instinctive to it, they destroy it.

I am sorry for this guy, but the risks involved when working with wild animals that are capable of killing humans with little effort are well known, and he was aware of this, I am sure.

It should be criminalized, period.

10. Would they really destroy it?
I mean, tigers are on the endangered species list and there are a lot of people and organizations out there trying to protect them and save the species. If they kill this animal it will be a genuine scandal.

13. Yes, they really would.
You might think the fact that they are considered an endangered species would preclude the exploitation of these animals for entertainment purposes.

9. The tiger has been "quarantined"
Edited on Sat Oct-04-03 08:39 AM by jumptheshadow
I don't know what will happen to it. I hope that it survives. I love animals and have rescued three sick and abused ones who are now living very happy and comfortable lives. But this is a truly awful event. I hope Roy Horn recovers completely.

4. Sad indeed.
Hopefully the animal will not be shot for simply being an animal. Only human arrogance would conceive of the idea of using wild animals as part of human entertainment. I have a cat, who doesn't take kindly to being told what to do. I can only imagine what these animals must feel like parading around as entertainment for us.

Tiger probably figured it was best to get out of that gig before it started. Especially after being whapped on the head with the microphone!

"Right after that, the tiger kind of turned its head and bit him on the arm," Sherman said. "Roy started taking a microphone and started whapping the tiger on the head."

6. Animals have no place in circuses
It's time it was stopped.

Cirque Du Soleil is the way to go. Best circus I have ever seen, and no animals except humans.

11. every time I take my kids to
Sea World I question the sanity of the parents who allow thier children to put thier heads into the mouths of captive Killer Whales.

Not really shocked by this. Nothing and no one likes captivity.
