Romney cancels trip to California to stump for Arnold
By Jennifer Peter, Associated Press, 10/4/2003 19:09

BOSTON (AP) Republican Gov. Mitt Romney cancelled his plans to campaign for Arnold Schwarzenegger Saturday after days of negative publicity about the Republican actor's treatment of women and past comments that appeared to praise Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

Romney didn't withdraw his support from Schwarzenegger, but said he had decided to stay home because of the ''sideshow politics'' surrounding Tuesday's gubernatorial recall election.

''I still endorse my friend Arnold. He's the best choice to be governor of California,'' Romney said in a statement. ''It's unfortunate the events of the last few days make it hard to focus on the issues that really matter, like jobs, the economy and reform.''

He said he had been in contact with the Schwarzenegger campaign and ''we agree that I should cancel my visit to California.'' He had been scheduled to leave Sunday for a day of last-minute campaigning Monday.

1. I saw Kennedy asked about Romney's remarks
on c-span. He *flat out* refused to be baited but said he had spoken to Mitt on the phone and they had a "good" conversation about it. I note "good" that way because Kennedy did. More than once. I got the impression he had flayed the guy. Just an impression but I was content, if you know what I mean.

2. Oh please do it, Mitt
PLEASE!

No doubt you think he is the best for California because he's had his meetings with Kenny-Boy Lay.

I hope this comes back to bite you, HARD, and Bay Staters send you packing back to Utah.

5. why is he governor ?
ok, i know he isn't like the right wing republicans, and that democratic candidate for governor made a bunch of mistakes. i wish robert reich had won the nomination. i think he would have won in the general election and made a great governor.

8. Maybe 1% of Californians even know who
Mitt Romney is. Why the hell would anyone care who he supports?

10. Mitt knows what "endorse" means, doesn't he?
you confirm; you approve

Mitt, whether you're standing next to him or not, when you 'endorse' Ahhnold ... you are the signature on the back of Ahhnold's check ...
