Cheney Invokes 9/11, Lauds Air Force Grads
Cheney Invokes 9/11, Lauds Air Force Grads
By ROBERT WELLER, Associated Press Writer

Wednesday, June 1, 2005

(06-01) 11:18 PDT AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) --

In a speech dominated by the tragedy of Sept. 11, Vice President Dick Cheney told graduating cadets at the Air Force Academy on Wednesday that they will help lead the nation to victory in the war against "freedom's enemies."

"Four years ago, when you arrived at the Air Force Academy, some believed our nation had entered a long period of relative quiet with few real threats to our security and little reason to expect serious danger," he said. "All of you remember that Tuesday morning in 2001."

A handful of protesters rallied outside the school to protest the speech and criticize the Bush administration.

"I strongly believe that what our current administration is doing, especially in Iraq, is wrong and they've ruined our economy," said Patty Pettus, who was carrying a sign that said "Emperor Cheney of the dark side."

3. Was he actually cheered for a repeat of this stunt?
These are collage grads after all. If cheered, each cadet should turn in cap and gown and diploma asap. They are undeserving.

4. "Emperor Cheney of the dark side." Isn't that the truth. Great sign.
We will not, however, see any protestors on the evening news.

Let's see, was there anything else?

Oh, of course, how silly of me - 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11!

7. I was there...
It is a very beautiful ceremony, but Cheney's speech was not uplifting at all.

There were a couple nice lines about the duty they are accepting etc.

The crowd was actually not entirely welcoming. I'd say it was maybe only 70% support, and very little of it was enthusiastic support. I think maybe a lot of people stood to respect the office.

Sadly, I think the grads heard what they need to hear. It's a reality check. He could have just as easily said, "Now this is your problem, too."

His first 4 sentences and last 4 were great, the middle 9/11 bullshit was worthless to everyone but the grads.

John Edwards would have given a wonderful commencement speech. Oh well.

8. Protesters...
The protesters numbered around 30 at the south gate of the academy. I didn't see the north gate. Their signs and entusiasm was great. My car gave 'em the thumbs up.

9. Why would want to remind everybody about his biggest failure?
While he was busy making plans to carve up Iraq, the 9/11 guys were finalizing their plans. The dirty rotten bastard was warned repeatedly but he was too stupid to do anything about it. cheney is one of the most brazen and nervy shit birds that ever lived.

12. air force
If I was still in the Air Force I would have given him the
1 finger salute

He was the mastermind behind Sept 11th, with him being in charge
of Operation Northern/Guardian

13. "he was too stupid to do anything about it"
I suspect that he didn't do anything to prevent the 911 Attack because the Bush Regime needed their "Pearl Harbor" to invade Afghanistan and Iraq.
