Planned job cuts soar 42% in May
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Planned job cuts soared in May after hitting a five-year low in April, but it's too early to worry about weakness in the economy, an employment firm said Thursday.

Employers announced 82,283 job cuts in May, compared to 57,861 in April, according to a monthly report issued by Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

May job cuts rose 12 percent from the year-ago period. So far this year, 427,278 job cuts have been announced, 4.6 percent more than the five-month total of 408,392 last year, the report said.

1. In the good old days the oldtimers had to just worry about being replaced
by younger College Graduates who will take less pay.Now all of them have to be worried about being replaced by people in India or China who will take less pay, no benefits, no insurance, no retirement and so on. The World, according to Friedman, is getting flattened. The only flattening I see are people here.

10. To all those who voted for Bush: What is more of a threat to you or your
family "gay marriage" or an economy in the toilet. As you drive around with your patriotic stickers on your cars and shell out more and more at the gas pumps - do you wonder why your president is letting the oil companies rake in uprecedented profits?
